They are getting everyone fired about about them wanting to play together again. Gambo said that he thought Kobe would never leave the Lakers. But, in the last 4 days he is hearing from reliable sources, meaning more than one source lol, that Kobe will not only leave the Lakers but that Phoenix is his desired location. Adding that Tracy would soon follow as well. Not only is Gambo saying this, but Ash as well.

As long as they agree, then it must be true.

Now I have no idea what's gonna happen with Kobe. But I think it would be funny if Gambo was right about this. All the Gambo haters would never hear the end of it. I like Gambo just for the reason he says crazy stuff.

This got me thinking. Does anyone remember the article a couple years ago about how the Suns nearly missed drafting Kobe. Supposedly his agent was talking to teams (telling them not to draft him) and trying to direct him to L.A. (via Charlotte) or Phoenix.

Yep. That definitely happened.

Also, the suns almost traded Shawn Marion and Jason Kidd for Kobe after they won their first title.

Here's something that makes you think.

Gambo mentions Kobe AND TMac on the Suns. Chad Ford guests on the show. NO mention of Kobe and TMac at all in Ford's insider column.

Don't you think that would be item #1 for ESPN if there were "rumors" of it? I'm sure nobody but Phoenix fans who listen to Phoenix radio are even aware of it.

Chap, I'm almost positive they were referring to a Chad Ford interview on ESPN radio. They also could have been referring to when they interviewed Chad Ford a while back. We'll see if Gambo writes an article about this on AZCentral. Then it might get a little press in ESPN Insider.

BTW someone mentioned that the Phoenix Suns almost traded Jason Kidd and Shawn Marion to the Lakers for Kobe Bryant. I don't think that was probably even close to happening. I think that's a trade that people around here were suggesting. I really think that deal was on the table the Phoenix Suns probably would have done it.

My mistake, I thought when the issue first came up that Gambo "broke" the story, and then a half hour later he actually had Chad Ford on the radio. Another question is why Chad Ford was even on Phx radio in the first place? I'm confused about just how Ford got involved.

Well, I know they had him on their show as a guest just after the big Marbury trade. Infected might have been that same day.

I find it hard to believe though that the Kobe/TMac story is that old, don't you...? Especially from Gambo, who apparently doesn't like to wait to talk rumors about any team in any sport...

I was the one who brought up the Marion/Kidd deal. I didn't get it from here, since I joined the board before last season. So it to be somewhere else :D

There was a lot of talk about it. I remember Shaq was doing most of the talk. He wanted a pass first point guard, that wouldn't dominate the ball and take shots away from him. Marion was only in his second year, and was showing like he would have been a great asset.

Actually, at the time the trade was pretty even. I think that is why it was talked about for a while. I mean Kobe Brant was very good, but not top 5 like he is now. Jason Kidd didn't have any recent off court problems, and Shawn Marion was a young player with limitless upside. Of course, I don't know how close it actually came to going down.

I missed the first part of the intial Tracy/Kobe talk (the day you calle din Joe), but I think someone said that Chad Ford was on the radio before that.

Gambo just claimed Kobe makes about 11 right now. That Gary and Malone only signed one year deals. And agreed with a caller that the Lakers could be a big player in the FA market if Kobe leaves. Of course they failed to recognize Shaq makes 30million a year.

Anyone have the number? I so want to call them out on this.

They are wrong about the Lakers cap space but who really cares.

If Kobe leaves and the Lakers don't sign anyone and renounce their FAs they might have a small chance to get a little capspace at some time before Shaq's contract expires in 2007.

Nothing major most likely.

 Hey, if we draft Dwight Howard, sign Kobe Bryant, and trade for Tracy McGrady, we could play a lineup of Bryant, McGrady, Howard, Amare Stoudemire, and Maciej Lampe — four high-school-to-NBA players, and a foreigner who entered the NBA at the age of 18. I bet that would be a first.

But then again, how would we trade for McGrady without using the pick? That would be unlikely unless we have #1 and can get Orlando's pick in return which would likely have to be #2 to get Howard....

I doubt Marion gets it done or Marion+Johnson.

I could see Marion, Jacobsen and the pick maybe.

That would leave us with Johnson=Harper, Jordan>Kobe, TMac>Pippen, Amare>Rodman, Lampe or whoever>Longley.

I dunno. We’ve got a fair amount of trading material even without including the pick or Amare. We have Shawn, JJ, Zarko, Leandro, the Cleveland pick... And if it’s what McGrady wants, and the Magic aren’t going anywhere anyway, it seems realistic.

Maybe it doesn’t seem especially likely, but then, neither did Penny Hardaway for Danny Manning, Pat Garrity, and a couple of picks, or Bo Outlaw and a pick for Jud Buechler, or anything for Robert Archibald.

I could see us trading Shawn, JJ, Zarko, and a pick for McGrady, then forgetting to file the protection paperwork with the league office and losing him to the Bobcats. It’s been that kind of a season.

Why does everone hate on Gambo's rumors? He has some sources and he has been right alot. I.E saying the Suns were gonna draft zarko before anyone really knew who he was, and he had been talking about Googs to Utah for months.

mojo everyone said that we would draft zarko before the draft. every single mock draft had us drafting zarko over a month before the draft. also everyone and their dog has been reporting that googs would be traded to utah for months to. the thing about this is that if gambo ever comes up with something new it never happens. the idea that Tmac and kobe would come to the suns and the suns not having to give up amare is so out there that it is a joke and if the suns give up amare for kobe or tmac then we can plan on never getting out of the first round. you dont trade big for small. and both kobe and tmac are small players they can score in bunchs but they arent the bigs like amare.

the biggest problem with this whole both tmac and kobe thing is who is going to be doing anything beside scoring? who will rebound? get steals? play defense? amare can man the paint (in time he will get to be a better defender). oh and who is going to get the ball? remember that there is only one ball. tmac will want to score his 27 a game, kobe his 23+ a game, and amare will want his 20+ a game. and then remember the old adage going inside out. do you think that kobe and tmac will take a backsit to amare? houston is finding that they are having problem with their guards not wanting to do this. how will kobe and tmac take it?
