Gambo said tonight that the front office was not happy with Ortiz's performance Tuesday night and if he continues to struggle in his next few starts, the Diamondbacks could put Russ in the bullpen where he would not be happy, or release him and eat his contract.

We'll see. I have a feeling Byrnes wants him outta here as fast as possible but the FO wants to keep him around. Anyone with baseball IQ knows the guy is absolutely horrible and has to go. If he whines about going to the bullpen, where he prob won't find any success anyways, get him the hell out of here. We've lost 4 freakin games in a row since that hasbeen got recalled

Ortiz gets paid no matter what, so the money is essentially irrelevant on any decision made to release or keep him. The guy for all his troubles is still better than Kevin Jarvis, Terry Mulholland, etc. and could be useful as a long reliever in the pen now that Grimsley is gone (where he would become possibly the most overpaid long reliever ever, but he gets that cash whether he pitches or not). I really dont think he will be released any time soon.

I'm all for that if he's willing to swallow some pride and play team ball. But he needs to be removed from the rotation ASAP.

Good i'm not a big ortiz fan at all it seems like everytime he pitches he gives up 5 or more runs in the first 5 innings, I say lets just release him now and take a chance on some of our younger pitchers or trade for Dontrel Willis. Gl to Ortiz I hope he has success and can turn around his carrer whereever he goes if the Dbacks do release him.

I wish he could make it to the 5th inning while only giving up 5.... The clown can barely get out of the 2nd inning. He's pitched in 5 games (19 1/3 innings) and his average outing is a little over 3 1/2 innings. To go along with that, he has a 6.52 ERA and has walked more batters then he has struck out (18 BB vs 17 K). I know everyone is aware of these stats but I'm sick of him being in our rotation. He's gonna get his money either way so let him walk.

Trade him to the Yankees for a bucket of baseballs.

Seriously, I really WOULD like to see Russ do anything, just to verify paying that assnine contract was worth anything, however I'm not feeling too optimistic.

With Cruz hurt, Nippert sent back to Tucson, and no other viable pitchers at AAA level, you do you propose replacing Ortiz with?

This guy has go to be one of the worst signings ever.

If he had been good before he got here then got hurt or something that would be one thing but he stunk before the signing, everyone in baseball laughed at the Dbacks for signing him and he's done nothing but stink every since.

WORST SIGNING EVER!

Simple, let Ortiz have one more horrible outing (his next start), then recall Nippert. I'm not too high on Nippert but anything is better than Ortiz. With Cruz on the DL, bring up Enrique Gonzalez.

You hope he can have a couple of respecatable outings and then can get traded to the Yankees. The dbacks are in a no win situation. He is not even pitching welkl enought that another team will take a portion of his contract.
I hope he pitches better but they are losing by paying him. They lose more if they pitch him. They may as well cut him or at least demote him to the bullpen. If he doesnt like it they can offer to tear up his contract and let him walk LOL

Ortiz WILL NOT be traded. I don't understand why people think he has any value to another team????? We were the only team stupid enough to sign him to that crazy contract and no other team will be stupid enough to trade for him. Even if we were to trade him, we would have to eat nearly all of his contract. Bottom line is he's our problem, either he starts to actually pitch or we kick him to the curb

I was only hoping there would be a dumb GM out there. Maybe if the Dbacks paid most fo his cotract there would be a team willing to take a chance on him. IF we eat most of his contract that is better than all his contract. By the way wouldn't it be nice if we still had Chris Capuano and John Pattterson as the 2 and 3 gusy guysbehind Brandon Webb. Instead we signed this loser. It is nice Joe Jr. is gone. I like the moves Burns has made so far

Capuano hurt.... Patterson just didn't work out and it's tough for the Dbacks sake to watch him have success for the Nats (although he's been out all year). Byrnes is def making good moves and it will be interesting to see which pitchers he goes after next offseason

Right. If his stamina was running out after a few innings, he might be good for an inning or two out of the bullpen.

But getting hit early, even putting him in the bullpen would cost us games . . . and further affect the team's morale.

Time to cut bait and take our loss.

Now here is the question, do we root for Ortiz to have a good outing or do we hope he is his usual self and get released?

Since we are dbacks fans we should hope do does well. If he does well they might be able to tade him or he can give the rotaation some stability. However I doubt it will happen

Did you see him fall down trying to field that bunt in the first inning?

He's horrible, just horrible.
