Once he signs the tender it isn't an option but since he hasn't yet, he may be be able to convince the Hornets to do a S&T (the Joe Johnson negotiating tactics may be working)

Once the offer sheet has physically been signed you can't, but that doesn't happen until the 11th so there is still time to negotiate.

According to the collective bargaining agreement rules to qualify for a sign-and-trade all of the following must be true:

The player must re-sign with his prior team -- a team cannot include another team's free agent in a sign-and-trade.

The player must finish the preceding season with that team (deals are no longer allowed that sign-and-trade players who are out of the
league, such as the sign-and-trade that sent Keith Van Horn from Dallas to New Jersey as part of the Jason Kidd trade in 2008).

The player cannot be a restricted free agent who has signed an offer sheet with another team.

I was pretty critical of Brown at the beginning of last season, but after the all-star break he finally started being a team player & finding spots that he could be productive in. I'd be fine with picking him back up on a small to mid-level contract. I'd even be open to it being up to 3 years.

Whoever wrote that article doesn't know what they're talking about. The section you quoted is true, but Gordon has only made a verbal agreement and has not signed anything yet. S&T can still be negotiated until he actually signs.

Just read the comments section of the linked site, more accurate information than in the article.

right now there is a verbal agreement. It might even be in writing, but it is not an official NBA offer sheet.

Wonder if Mayo is waiting in the wings or if Shannon Brown really is the only backup plan.

Well, it's certainly odd that Mayo went "out of the country" for the first week of FA when he's a UFA. That seems like a really friggin important time to be home, you know?

Its also conventient that Mayo and Gordon share the same agent. It sure would be easy for that to be coordinated.

If the price is right I'd be ok with this too. This biggest complaint I had of Brown in the early season was that he was forcing way too much. I don't know if it was the Kobe influence or just that he was trying too hard to impress but his shot selection was just horrid.

I thought that got much better during that run after the All-star break and he was letting the game come to him. If he can build on that I think he could be a solid starter/6th man type.

Brown is my 4th option.

Eric Gordon, OJ Mayo, Courtney Lee and then Brown.

Guy played good last year and he has the team chemistry with our core. Only if he can improve his 3pt shooting over the summer and needs to be more dedicated to playing defense.

Apparently the Clippers are the Mystery 4th team in the Dwight Howard trade as of now. The Clips are giving up a Lottery Protected 1st rd pick in exchange for getting Marshon Brooks from the Nets. Can't believe the Suns aren't in this deal. If I were the Suns, I'd call em up and offer the '13 Suns Top 8 protected pick (or '13 Lakers unprotected pick) along with the Suns and Lakers '13 second rd picks for Brooks - dependant on the Hornets matching Gordon's contract. Better yet would be to pull Gordon's contract offer, make the trade for Brooks and sign OJ Mayo to a deal. Brooks is still on his rookie deal and can play the 2/3 spots. Just as good offensively and rebounding wise as Dudley but not as defensive minded. Future would definitely be brighter with Brooks and Mayo added to what the Suns are doing than to add Gordon IMO.

He is a nice bench player/high energy and should be used as an Eddie House type.. However, if he makes anything more than 3-3.5 million a year and/or gets more than 20-25 mpg the suns are completely screwed..

If the Suns strike out on Gordon and Mayo, most likely the starting SG is Dudley, with Beasley the starting SF. Brown could be brought back and still be a backup.

I agree. And imo Mayo shouldn't get more than $7 mil a year....he hasn't earned it.

I agree if Brown is willing to sign a one year deal, hell I would be fine with 5 mil.. but I don't think he will, and when it comes to a long term deal if we give him a 3 year+ contract, that is where I will lose it..

This would be the right thing to do whether we get Gordon or not. More young talent at low cost is never a bad thing. However, if we can't get Gordon it provides a starter on a rookie deal and preserves cap space for next year.

I am sure that the Gordon situation keeps the Suns out of the negotiating for Brooks. They just have too much potentially tied up right now to be making other deals. Once Gordon is decided, they could move.
