Yes I know its Gambo but hey its info...

According to Gambo, due to the signing of Steve Nash the Suns have cooled on their interest on occur. The reason being they originally wanted a C that could score, but since they got Nash (who also can score) they are focusing on a C that can defend and rebound. Also, there is still a slim chance of the Suns getting Kobe via sign-and-trade.

I guess that would make Foyle and/or Blount our focus to improve the Center position.

I can hear Eric sighing in relief now. :)

He said Ostertag would be someone they will look at.

He also named Andres Noccioni, a 6'8 SF from europe.

And Kobe will probably not make a decision until late august.

If the Suns do have 7.5M left, then no way in the world do they throw all of that at Blount or Foyle.

No they wouldn't, they'd also add someone else. For example they'd have packages like Foyle and Dice or Blount and Dice or Ginnobli and Ostertag, etc.

I think there is no way Kobe waits long to sign his contract.

The contenders for his services. Mainly the Suns, Clippers and Spurs won't keep their caproom and miss out on the other FA and in the Clippers and Spurs case on their own RFA.

If Kobe waits that long he won't have any options other than signing with the Lakers or Atlanta or Utah possibly.

I'd like to think that the Suns were never interested in Okur in the first place. Now that it's becoming clear they won't go after him, the gossip columists are covering their posteriors by saying that the Suns are "cooling" on him.

Noccioni reminds me of Dan Majerle: dunks, 3PTers, a few tough rebounds, etc. Didn't appear to be driver Thunder Dan was early years but if he's considered best Non-NBA player - with not much $$ left, don't see a Center and Noccioni a possibility?

Based on Gambo's track record so far, what this means is that the Suns are seriously considering Okur for the first time.

Back when they were 'interested', he must not even have been on their radar screen. "Mehmet who?" :p

F-Dog, some how, Gambo gets pretty decent information. He is a moron, has a negative understand of the CBA, but for some reason, he has a source inside the team.

Eric and I can disagree about stupid stuff, but Okur is seriously BAD mojo for us! Can you say Longley? This guy is about as tough as a stick of butter on a hot Arizona sidewalk in the summer! God I hope Gambo is right! We dodged getting Podolskine. We dodge Okur, and I think this off season is a major success even without getting Kobe, TMac, Shaq, or Vinsanity! :)

Just last week Gambo was saying it was going to take 10 million a year to sign Nash. Everyone thought he was a moron.

I still say he was wrong. It didn't "take" that much to sign Nash. The Suns offered it and Nash accepted it, but probably his market value would have been a million or two lower.

If you go to a car dealership and pay the sticker price, that doesn't tell you what the car is worth.

An article I read today basically said Cuban offered him the same amount per year, but for only 4 years. We give him 5 guaranteed, with a partial guarntee on the sixth year. I know different things have been said since, but I think the partial year guarantee thing is confusing some of these smart reporters. Nash's agent has said it's what I wrote above. :)

I never said he guarenteed it. He most definitely siad there was a strong possibility that both would be here. He was getting kind of giddy in his voice. I remember it very clearly.

Offset, Gambo almost certainly talked about Tracy McGrady and Kobe Bryant come into play for the Phoenix Suns together. He talked about it like that was the Phoenix Suns plan. I know because I was listening to him on the radio. If you guys remember I even called in and corrected him on some of the salary cap issues.

Eric, I'm not sure your car dealership example really works for this situation. Now I agree that they overpaid Steve Nash, but I believe they had to do it to get him here. It was going to take an offer that was not just a little but better but significantly better than Dallas' to get him to leave them. He said that himself. Now whether he is going to be worth that much remains to be seen.

Hm, I can't see Dallas making that type of offer. Their saving thier capspace for Shaq aren't they?

Or has that deal died?

the Dallas Mavericks aren't even close to having any room under the salary cap. I just think that Mark Cuban really did not want to be locked into Steve Nash for that fifth season.

Cuban's problem wasn't the money (probably), but the age of his team. They are no where close to winning it all and are locked into a bunch of big, long contracts. It is a similar situation in Sacramento, but they are a bit closer to being a real contender now that the Lakers are self destructing. Neither team looks like a contender in three years.

it's not that he fears being locked into a bunch of contracts in five years (a year after Nash's four-year offer would expire). It's that he fears being locked into any big deals at that point. So far Daniels is the only player that the Mavericks have under contract for 2008-09.

I play poker, and there's a saying: "Don't throw good money after bad." Basically what it means is, if one of your opponents is making a mistake, and that mistake forces you into a difficult decision, don't "outdo" your opponent by making an even bigger mistake than his.

If the Suns knew they were overpaying Nash but did it just to get him away from Cuban's lesser overpayment, that's a mistake.

People forget that the suns are under the cap and that the mavs are over. Of course they overpaid, but the only reason cuab didnt matchi is because of the luxory tax. He wouldve been paying over 120 mill for that hoser, nash. That said, I love nash and I think this is a great move by the suns. I dont care that we overpaid, the guy is a great pt guard and a stand up guy.
