First pitch is set for 6:40 p.m. Arizona time

Starting this thread earlier than normal because why not?

We still have a pulse in the wildcard race....but that all could change at the end of this series.

98.7 reporting that it was a “team mistake” and that Young should’ve been named the starter all along... Odd. [emoji848]
Dare I say . . . another gem from the team of Torey Lovullo & Mike Butcher. Somebody is covering up.

As Casey Stengel once asked, "Does anyone here know how to play this game?"

We're not making this up, folks!

I've been waiting for some scoring to post about the game but, entering
the bottom of the 5th, and only one hit (by Washington), nothing yet.

Young has struck out eight through five so far.

And the D-backs get their first hit, an infield single . . . by the pitcher Alex Young.

Phew! No no-hitter tonight!

The D-backs give a 2-out intentional walk and a runner on 2B.

And a double by Adams drives them in. He was a late addition
to the starting lineup. 2-0 Nationals in the middle of the 6th.

Washington brings in a lefty with one out in the 6th to pitch
to Peralta. And the D-backs go down in order.

And our only hit(ter) of the night, the pitcher, Young, is gone.
We have as many hits as posters since the start of the game.

Uno!

Crichton comes in to pitch the 7th.

This team is so boring, I had to turn the game off, just brutal offense .

I've kept the game on while I've been emailing with a lady friend long distance.

Actually, my first sweetheart sixty years ago. We're separated now by 2400 miles.

These hot-and-cold D-backs batters drive fans crazy! Jones is the only one who
tried to bunt his way on.

Azjose86, a good pitching duel is one thing. The D-backs being one-hitted and
down 2-0 is something else. Especially when our one hit is by the pitcher.

The problem is scoring at home. The whole team. When is the coaching staff
going to figure something out? If the problem is more distractions when at
home, perhaps the team needs to start batting practice earlier. And pay more
attention to the condition of the players when they come to the ball park.

Chrichton gives up a solo HR with 2 outs in the top of the 8th. 3-0.

Fernando Rodney, former D-backs closer, with his cap sideways
and bow & arrow poised, is in to pitch the bottom of the 8th.

Then Holland pitches the top of the 9th in a non-save situation
to try to regain his confidence and he retires them 1-2-3.

It's the bottom of the 9th and the D-backs down by 3.

Can the position players get their first hit?

Escobar - fly ball. Stubborn.

Peralta - fly ball. Stubborn.

Jones - strikeout.

Yeah, D-backs. All-or-nothing. It really works, doesn't it?

A$$holes!

No pitcher since 1906 has struck out at least 9 and
accounted for all of his team's hits as Young did tonight
(his first Major League hit).

If the hitters are not embarrassed, they should be.

Too bad Greinke is gone. If he were here, maybe he and
Young could have started at 1B and LF tomorrow. :)

I wonder if this team is going to mail in the rest of the season after trading Greinke. Hazen made the right call with this team hovering around .500 and keeping everyone else while bringing in a couple of SP's that should help the staff remain at least competitive. If this team continues to decline then fine, start focusing on building this team for next year.

Pretty sad how the only hit the dbacks had was the pitcher.
