If you told me before the season that Marte’s OBP in August would be .380 I’d submit you for a psych exam.
Especially considering his early tendency to not take walks. That changed early this season.

Gallen has given up leadoff walks in the 3rd, 4th and now 5th inning.

'Need to work on that.

Gallen is out after 5 innings. 85 pitches.

I'll be darned. He was a little over a half-Gallen.

He gave up only one hit.

McFarland gives up a hit to his 2nd batter.
The bullpen better not blow it.

D-backs load the bases in the 7th.

And Jones strikes out to end the inning.

Still 4-0.

Chafin in to pitch the 8th and gives up a hit.

Dyson takes over in CF, Marte moves to 2B and
Flores moves to 1B. Walker is out of the game.

Our best fielding 1B is our 3rd string 2B/3rd
string 1B, who started tonight at 2B. Huh?

Sloppy fielding by the Phillies and the D-backs
score a run. And Marte with an RBI single to
make it 6-0.

Archie will probably not be coming into pitch
the top of the 9th with the 6-run lead.

It will be the rookie Ginkel.

What a MONSTER season for Marte! And he's making a whopping $2 Million this season and is signed thru 2022, with two club options in 2023 and 2024! In 2022, he'll make $8 Million... What genius decided to invest in Marte after the 2017 season??? Hmmmm...

Bryce Harper with a 1-out HR off the rookie. 6-1.

In the Minors this season, he averaged 2 strikeouts
per inning.

Then a walk. And a strikeout.

The D-backs take the series 2-1 vs. the Phillies.

And the season series. 4-2. Now a game over .500.

Thursday is an off-day, then a weekend series in L.A.

Great job of coaching by Torey and his crew!
Seriously, there are guys on here bashing Torey for every bad decision and being silent on all his good decisions. They predicted win totals under 70 and we have 58 wins with 47 games to play. And they are still bashing him. I don't get it. No, I am not happy with a mediocre team but that is what we have. And based on their predictions, Torey is getting more wins out of this team than they predicted and they are still bashing him. Just enjoy the ride and quit trying to be a wanna be GM, you are not! Do you really think you know more than our manager? Let me know when you are offered a MLB Manager job. I'll be rooting for you too. This board used to be fun but the Debbie Downers have killed the fun. Let's go back to talking baseball and quit pretending you know more than the Manager and GM.

Yep! IMO, the tandem of Hazen and Torey, and the team of coaches and scouts they’ve assembled, are at the very top levels in all of MLB.
Our farm system is now ranked the 5th best! Incredible...
This team is 1.5 games out of the post season on August 7th. After losing Goldy, Corbin and AJ... losing Taijuan Walker and Souza for the year. Losing Weaver for the year... Trading away our Ace... Forced to DFA a pitcher who had once been a solid contributor (Godley). DFA’d our closer... Our new de facto closer was virtually all but sent down to Reno just 5 weeks ago, and somehow Torey and his staff nurtured him back to life (Archie)...

I mean, seriously... I honestly don’t know if any other GM and Manager have dealt with more challenges and squeezed as much out of the season as Hazen and Torey have! Nothing short of amazing!!

82, your response is much more detailed than the generalizations posted by AZ Native, who seems to be dictating what he wants us to post.

Especially when he said, "Seriously, there are guys on here bashing Torey for every bad decision and being silent on all his good decisions."

Huh? Of course we post about the bad decisions and expect good decisions. That is what a sports board is for. If my SUV is underperforming, I am not a mechanic. I can't repair it. But I certainly can sense when it is underperforming. Long live ASFN for providing this format.

Speaking for myself, I don't like when Torey constantly plays four position players out of position. Or when we had three rotating starting catchers. I believe it disrupts team chemistry. And yes, there is team chemistry in baseball.

But still playing half the lineup out of position continues, despite the sloppy fielding we've seen lately. And that a team that is capable of winning every other game also loses every other game and remains mediocre all season long.

I like that management has finally made major changes in the starting pitching staff. And have gotten rid of some underperforming players. Mediocre players result in a steady .500 team. If we do better, I will give management credit, as I just did.

But I don't like that the Manager takes so long to react to situations. Or the idea that Hazen should be commended for providing a team that has to "squeeze much out of the season". It is his job to do better.

From a fan's perspective, we have a right to expect better and to post about it. And to call out the General Manager and Field Manager, as fans who have witnessed a lot of baseball.
