First pitch is set for 6:40 p.m. Arizona time.
The free agency class for relievers next year look rather bleak.
Going to have to bring some one up from the farm system. imo
I appreciate your wanting to give Archie still another chance.I am willing to give Archie a full off-season to work on his craft as a Closer... I am not overly optimistic, but there is still a part of me that sees the arm talent he possesses and the movement on all his pitches. If he can master his secondary and third pitches, and become more of a sharp-shooter and not putting the ball in places where it can be hit so hard as often as he's currently doing...there remains a glimmer of hope that he can become our reliable closer.
But, in most of his 9th inning appearances, he has put two runners on base,I think he is doing fine, so far. What little I have seen him on TV the last couple of weeks, he seems (to me) to be throwing those other pitches pretty good.
But, in most of his 9th inning appearances, he has put two runners on base,
then has to work his way out of it. That demoralizes the team and the fans.
And it puts a lot of pressure on Archie, who is still auditioning for closer.
He was dropped from the 7th-8th inning relief job, then wound up closer
only because our closer and Yoshi both failed.
In this last game, both his curve and changeup looked good. And still he
put two runners on base in a 2-1 game. Too close for comfort.
I wish we could have an easy 1,2,3 9th inning.
