Leadoff Cardinals base hit is left stranded.

The D-backs have never led in this game.

Rojas with a 2-out walk in the 14th.

He got a big jump at 1B -- too good a
jump -- and is picked off by the pitcher.

430 pitches in the game so far in this
5-hour game.

Duplantier, the 11th D-backs pitcher.

Leadoff single for the Cardinals and Goldy flies out.

Double play. Bottom of the 15th coming up.

Kelly with a leadoff walk. Ahmed strikes out.

Dyson strikes out. Duplantier has to hit and
beats out a high hopper for his first MLB hit.

1st & 2nd with 2 outs. Walker, again with 2
runners on base, but he whiffs.

It's almost tomorrow. 3 more minutes.

Rockies and Giants also in the 16th in San Francisco,
but Colorado just grabbed a 3-run lead on a HR.

The juiced balls led to a record amount of home runs
this season, then we have games like this -- 2-2
after 15.

Steve & BB may have answered that. Everybody is
swinging wildly for home runs. And not connecting.

We are 15 minutes away from the longest
game in the history of this ballpark.

Vargas, who had homered earlier, leads off
with a double.

Escobar gets the intentional walk. Adam
Jones with a high infield fly popup.

Rojas with a loooong fly ball, but no one
can tag. Two outs.

Carson Kelly hits into a force out.

Runner in scoring position with no outs
and there he stays. :(

Bert & BB have been begging for a D-back to bunt,
but it is the Cardinals who do it to lead off the 17th.

A minute to go for the longest game by time in the
history of this ballpark. 5:46. And the longest game
by innings.

Who wudda thought?

A base hit to put Cardinals on 1B & 2B with 2 outs
and up comes Goldy, who whiffs.

Ahmed walks to lead off the bottom of
the 17th as we hit the 6-hour mark.

Dyson up, but he can't sacrifice because
Duplantier is coming up next.

Dyson strikes out. Duplantier trying to
sacrifice, but strikes out swinging. Why
didn't get he a sign to try to bunt again?

Walker with 2 strikeouts and a double
play with runners in scoring position
so far tonight is up. Ahmed steals 2B.
And Walker gets an intentional walk.

Vargas came into the game in the 9th
inning and is 3-for-4 and a triple shy
of the cycle. He is up with the winning
run on 2B. Groundout.

Yay, we're going to the 18th.

As in the old joke involving characters
from the Bible and golf, "Hey, are you
going to screw around or you going to
play baseball?" :)

Yoshi is in to pitch.

As Steve just mentioned, this is the 12th
consecutive season that the MLB strikeout
record has been broken.

Can I give them a "like"?

BB just used the term "pull shift".

That's a lot of pullshift. :)

It's the bottom of the 18th.
Let's put this baby to bed.

There have been 45 strikeouts in the game so far.

Escobar with a leadoff base hit. Jones tries to bunt,
but pops it up. Rojas hits into a DP to end the inning.

We're starting the 3rd game of the triple-header.
Paraphrasing the words of Roy Campanella, "Hey,
let's play three."

Ginkel, is coming in to pitch as the last D-back
(except for starters). And there is no position
player left.

Rojas runs into the bullpen fence to catch a long fly ball
to start the 19th. Then a fly ball to CF.

Two out single on a grounder to deep SS.

Hinkel makes a wild throw to 1B on a
pickoff attempt.

Runner on 3B with 2 outs, but a
strikeout leaves him there.

Another leadoff hit for the D-backs, this time by Kelly.

It's difficult to believe that this is still just a 2-2 game.

Ahmed with a base hit. Runners on first & second with
no outs.

Dyson is up and Robbie Ray is on-deck to pinch-hit.

Dyson strikes out on a pitch that just missed.

Robbie whiffs. Two outs.

Again, Walker comes up with two runners on. And
he is intentionally walked for the second time.

Vargas comes up with the bases loaded.
WALK-OFF!!! He tied it in the 9th and wins it in the 19th.

Longest game in franchise history ends in 19-inning win for D-backs

https://arizonasports.com/story/209...se-history-ends-in-19-inning-win-for-d-backs/

– Nineteen innings was a franchise record broken after four different D-backs games had reached 18 innings.

– The game came up 14 minutes shy of breaking the record for the longest game, a seven-hour and six-minute affair in 2013 against the Philadelphia Phillies.

– D-backs pitchers recorded 24 strikeouts, a franchise high.

– The D-backs broke the previous record for most players used in one game, which was 26.

– The teams combined for 46 strikeouts, which since 1906, is the second-most ever in a game.

– In San Francisco, the Giants and Colorado Rockies went 16 innings. That’s the first time ever there have been two 16-plus-inning games on the west coast.
