New Padres manager knows Diamondbacks well
New San Diego Padres manager Rod Barajas can relate.

Barajas, who grew up in the Arizona organization, played with the Diamondbacks in their only longer run of success, when they had five straight winning seasons from 1999-2003.

Barajas will return to Arizona for a three-game weekend series that concludes the regular season, his first time back since being promoted to replace Andy Green when these teams met in San Diego last weekend. The Padres (70-89 overall) are 1-5 since the change.

Double check the game number, Ronin.

You used '159' twice.

One time when I covered for you in
setting up the game thread as game
time approached, I did the same thing.

Padres jump out to a lead on a sac fly in the top of the 1st.

Rojas strikes out with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 1st.
'Sorry, but he's not a Major League hitter.

1-0 Padres.

A bases loaded walk to the D-backs with 2 outs in the bottom
of the 5th ties the score. Carson Kelly had doubled to lead off
for the D-backs.

Pitching change for the Padres. The submariner comes in.

A bobble at 2nd base on a force out makes it 2-1 D-backs.

Rojas leaves them loaded for the second time in the game.

Machado (4-for-43) comes right back with a solo
HR with one out in the 6th to tie the game at 2.

Cron up to pinch hit. I'm sad to see, what appears to be a
big wad of, chewing tobacco in his jaw.

Joe G. is turning over in his grave.

Cron gets hit by the pitch on a submarine sinker running in.

On deck is Locastro (the MLB HBP leader) of all people.

The Padres with an RBI double and he takes
3B on the throw with one out in the 7th.

San Diego strands the runner and leads 3-2.

D-backs have 3 hits in their first 6 innings.

In 7 innings, the D-backs have drawn 4 walks, 2 hit batsmen and an error
and have not taken advantage of it. They've left 8 runners on base.

Through seven, they have been stuck on 3 hits.

But here in the 8th, the first two Diamondbacks get on,
including a base hit.

Ahmed grounds out, advancing the runners to 2B & 3B.

Ground ball by Carson, but the runner is thrown out at
home. Tory is challenging the tag and the call is reversed.

D-backs tie the game at 3-3. Lamb is pinch hitting with
one out . . . and a .186 batting average. Runners on
1st & 3rd.

Whoa, Jake comes to life. A 3-run homer. Over the pool.

Locastro follows with a double. His second hit of the night.

6-3 D-backs after 8 innings. In the big inning . . .

In comes Archie and gives up his expected base hit.

His MO is to be put another Padres hitter on base
and bring the tying run to the plate.

We shall see!

Ooh, Locastro who moved to RF makes a diving catch.

Strikeout. 2 outs.

Archie keeps the dramatics to a minimum (with the
help of Locastro) and the D-backs win 6-3.

83-77 with two games to go.

I guess that locks it that Torey will be back for
another season, with his triple and quadruple
fielding switching transfers.

It's too bad that it happened too late to make
the post season. These last few games have
been meaningless.

But I guess you guys know that, with no one
else posting here since Ronin's first 3 to set
up the thread.

Tomorrow's game starts at 5:00.

Sunday's at noon.

They are playing well. I wonder if the reason for that is that they don't have the weight on their shoulders and they can just play.
