Diamondbacks' Christian Walker: Has key hit Friday
Rotowire Mar 30, 2019
Walker hit a three-run homer as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning of Arizona's 5-4 extra-innings win over the Dodgers on Friday.

The Diamondbacks were lifeless until Walker's bomb tied the game. It was the second homer in as many games for the backup first baseman and raises the issue of whether manager Torey Lovullo will manipulate the lineup to get his bat in there more often. One clear solution is to occasionally move starting first baseman Jake Lamb to third base, his natural position, but Lovullo put an end to that speculation for now, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. "I think we're going to put that idea on hold where we'll move [Lamb] across the diamond," Lovullo said. "We have definitely discussed it. It has come up. And yes, it would be nice to get both of those guys in there. But for the short-term time being, I think we're going to stand pat at first base." The manager said, after Walker's surprising Opening Day start, during which he homered and doubled, that there is not a strict platoon at first base.

Diamondbacks' Greg Holland: Closes out marathon win
Rotowire Mar 30, 2019
Holland struck out two in a scoreless 13th inning to earn the save in Friday's 5-4 win over the Dodgers.

Holland converted his first save opportunity of the season and did so with increased velocity. After spending much of the spring in the upper 80s, Holland's heater averaged 91.6 mph and maxed out at 92.4. His velocity was a talking point during spring training when he battled Archie Bradley for the closer's job, but if Holland's throwing his offspeed stuff (slider, curve) for strikes, velocity will not be an issue.

Diamondbacks' Robbie Ray: Fans nine in no-decision
Rotowire Mar 30, 2019
Ray didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 5-4 extra-innings win over the Dodgers, allowing three runs on three hits and five walks over five innings while striking out nine.

The southpaw's season debut was very much a mixed bag, but Ray was able to post a typically impressive strikeout rate even while throwing barely half his pitches (53 of 102) for strikes. Wins and quality starts will remain elusive if he can't tame the walks and last deeper into his outings, however. Ray will next take the mound April 3 on the road in San Diego.

Diamondbacks' Matt Andriese: Notches win in extra innings
Rotowire Mar 30, 2019
Andriese (1-0) picked up the win in Friday's 5-4 extra-innings victory over the Dodgers, walking four batters in 2.1 scoreless innings.

He nearly blew the game in the 10th inning -- entering with a runner on first and two outs, Andriese loaded the bases on a wild pitch, a HBP and a walk before making a great defensive play to snag an A.J. Pollock comebacker and escape the jam -- but the right-hander suffered no damage from his control issues and was rewarded when Carson Kelly's double in the top of the 13th broke a 4-4 tie. Andriese is used to his current long-relief role from his time in Tampa Bay, but from a fantasy perspective offers little other than iffy ratios and bulk strikeouts.

Well, that was unexpected.

Hopefully Walker and Carson Kelly are in today's line-up. Sadly, I wouldn't count on it.

Then why didn't they trade Greinke, Lamb, Ahmed and Peralta when they could?

If we were going to have to endure this, might as well go for a full rebuild.
Because this front office doesn't want us to know we're going to have to endure another rebuild after our last 2 above .500 seasons. There is no rationale for keeping Greinke, they need to get off that contract as he isn't worth the money and he is not going to regain Ace status. His situation is similar to Verlander who was terrible his last couple of years in DET before being dealt to HOU. Maybe that entices a team to take his contract off the books here.

Can walker play RF? LF? He really deserves a chance to hit

He has played both corner outfield spots in the past, both for the Orioles and for the D-Backs. Just not very often.
