It was smart of them to not go with PP on Crabtree. It's just not a good matchup today.

So glad VD was out.

Glad VD was out too... Then I saw their 3rd string TE catch like a 20 yd pass for a 1st down early and I'm going.. Here we go again another TE to the hall of fame thanks to the Cards.

My brother from SF and an employee of mine have been giving me crap for what seems like a decade. Be nice to give back, at least for now.

Man, Cromartie was so close to that pick 6 and it was a real bummer when he got injured.

Thanks for your observations TJ.

Quick question, was Jefferson undrafted? What school did he come from? Refresh my memory, please.

.

It was already answered, but Jefferson went to Oklahoma.

One of my best friends is an OU fan. When we signed him as an UDFA, my buddy told me that he's vastly underrated and not only would make the team, but be a significant contributor. He was ranked as a 2nd round prospect but plummeted due to a porous combine performance.

I'd like to recognize two items I consider well-deserved gifts to a long suffering fanbase...

Jared Veldheer. I have a feeling this guy is only going to get better. Perhaps we finally have this position locked down.

Coaching! Remember how painfully predictable we were prior to Arians and Co's arrival? Now we enjoy different game plans each week. We finally have a staff that can make mid-game adjustments. This is a savvy group!

-Stanton is a really good backup QB in this league. Losing Palmer could've spiraled this team into a complete state of ineptitude; however, he's done just enough without turning the ball over to put the team in position to win ball games. I think he still needs to build some confidence in his arm as he can make the big throws, but under throws a lot of his receivers. I do like his poise in the pocket.

-John Brown is blossoming. His route running in this game was spectacular, and was so wide open on both his TDs.

-Tommy Kelly should stick around for a while. Blocked FG and got good push up front. The run defense hasn't suffered at all.

-Patrick Peterson played a solid game after disastrous previous week. He was able to jam Crabtree and Lloyd on the line and completely throw their timing off. He does best when he's playing on the line, not 10 yards back; otherwise, he can get beat underneath.

-Tony Jefferson has an argument for player of the day. He did a good job in coverage and led the team in tackles and had to only sack. His best contribution, though, was when he provoked Boldin into head-butting him, causing the 15 yard penalty on a goal-to-go situation, which eventually led to the blocked FG.

-Bruce Arians is an amazing coach. Enough said.

-San Francisco is in a world of trouble, which is awesome. Whatever is going on in that locker room has spilled onto the field. They are undisciplined, selfish, and careless at times. SF could very well end the season as a 7-8 win team, and with that talent level, would be unacceptable. I could see Harbaugh being fired or bailing and taking the Michigan job when Hoke is fired.

Really good observations TJ. I believe I enjoyed this game more than any Cards game I have ever watched.

Ellington played superb as well.

He was one hand away from a TD on that last 20 yrd gain. He has done that now once in each game, been one hand away from a long TD run. He just needs to shed those last hand tackles and he would have at least 2 long run TDs.

Thanks for the summary as always TJ. I am studying for the CPA and CFA exams and haven't gotten to enjoy this weekend. A Hail Mary win against Cal, the Cards are 3-0 and Miller's Wildcats are preseason #1 according to Sporting News along with massive upgrades to McKale Center. Please punch me if I am dreaming

Hats off to Chandler Catanzaro, he has been great. It is nice to have someone that can kick off and get the ball to the other end zone.

Here are mine...

Mathieu is still working thru his rehab, but I like that the Cards are letting him do so in certain packages in games. This way he understands where he is in his rehab in relation to gae speed, and keeps him from getting frustrated.

As some have said, Tommy Kelly is working himself into a possible extension. Defensive lines are best in a rotation, and Kelly is a valuable guy to have in a rotation.

I like Martin better as an OLB in base, and a DE in nickel/dime. I believe his size works well, and hopefully he develops into a Shaughnessy type player as an OLB, who is a more natural/impactful pass rusher as a nickel DE.

I don't see it with Minter, and I believe his days are numbered. I know it is early, and he will still have a role, but he is not long for this team other than as a special teamer. The Cardinals play so much nickel/dime that Minter's poor coverage ability really stands out. His best chance at sticking as a starting ILB is if he gets a better feel for timing his blitzes so he can have an impact there, but right now, he isn't bringing much to this defense other than in obvious run downs.

The Cards are looking at nice depth at their S position. Neither Jefferson or Johnson are great players, but they are guys who can have roles, and provide some versatility for this defense. It is obvious to me that the future at FS and SS is Mathieu and Bucannon, but both Jefferson and Johnson are good enough to have a role.

Look for the Cards to struggle with Seattle more this year than they did last year. Wilson offers the same problems to the Cards defense that Kap did, but he is smart enough to continue to to exploit it.

Stanton isn't super talented, but he is tough. Not many backups (which Stanton is) would hang in the pocket, and take the shots he did throughout that game.

The line did ok physically yesterday but still gave up a bunch of hits to the QB. I thought Veldheer did well. Larsen is a limited player, and this team could really use Cooper steppnig up, and playing to his draft status. Massie and Fanaika are what they are IMO.

Interesting to see Fells in the game so much with Housler out. I am interested to see Niklas's snap count, because I didn't notice him in the game a ton which was surprising.

Ellington is a very nice player, but the Cards need another hammer to put next to him. A player who is a bit more physical, but still brings an explosive element.

So it looks like Niklas did get more snaps than I noticed which is nice to see. Good for him. Hopefully he holds onto those when Housler comes back.

How about Arians for being decisive with his QB's. There was never a question who the starter was and who the second guy was. He knew exactly what he wanted and stuck with it. He is a master at handling the QB position. After Whiz, its a breath of fresh air.

It just may be that Kepernick is not as good as he was last year and is falling back to his real abilities?

Colin is just a microcosm of what's going on w/ the 49ers. IMHO, I think there's something toxic in the locker room. A team, particularly one with the talent level of San Francisco, should not let small adversity get into their heads. How does a 2nd year UDFA safety get into the head of a 12-year veteran probowl WR who has a history of mental toughness?

Look for one of those "player meetings" to occur in the near future.

That is as soon as they can stop blaming everyone else and put the blame on themselves.

BA on the radio. Said they had to go to a silent count AGAIN in our own building because of crowd noise when the Cards were on offense.

That's very surprising as I thought the noise level was very low when we had the ball. Hmmm....

I wouldn't call Peterson last week disastrous that's going way over board

Based on the level of expectations put on him by himself, fans, the media, and Dick Sherman, it was disastrous. There's a sliding scale here. Had Jarraud "hot garbage" Powers played that way, it would've been a so-so game.

The fact that PP21 had a very good game last Sunday is noteworthy because it shows that he is mentally tough enough to rebound from a lackluster performance. If he had another very good game next time, I won't say anything because it is expected of him.
