What’s with throwing used gum out on the playing field? That’s twice now in the past two games I’ve seen that from DBacks players.

I feel bad for the field-guys. Why not just throw it in the trash can in the dugout?

Okay now that that’s off my chest, D-backs win!!!

But that's my point. They could have pitched Andriese in the 7th, possibly hit for him in the bottom of the 7th, and then pitched Sherfy in the 8th. Now they are forced to overextend Sherfy (who is a one-inning reliever) and pitch him in an atypical role for him (Duplantier, anyone?) or else waste another arm in the bullpen. This strategy makes zero sense to me.
I guess that's why our pitching is our weak point. It is so bad overall (with very
few exceptions) that, when the hitters are stymied, we are not a 2nd place team.

I agree with you that we need a Pitching coach, who oversees all pitchers, with
the expertise to advise the Manager on all pitching decisions. One who is not
an Assistant to the Manager, but THE pitching coach to run that part of the
operation.

Unlike hitting coaches who work with individual hitters but certainly do not
set the batting orders.
