When it comes to my feelings about the uselessness of Alex Avila? Yup.

So you are stuck in his performance from when he first started with the Dbacks and haven't progressed as he has.

You still think Archie is a lights out shutdown pitcher?

No and no. Glad you took it to the extreme though.

Seems like every time I see Avila bat he is a waste. OBP is probably skewed by intentional walks and being pitched around because he is in the 8 hole. Which also skews his OPS.

Highly predictive hitters aren't usually in the 8 hole?

Agree to disagree I guess.

So you are watching him the 60% of the time he doesn't reach base. And while I think he is wasted in the 8 hole, and both you and BC dismiss the value of a high OBP there, it does have value - if nothing else to prevent the pitcher from leading off the next inning (in two out situations). Could have come in handy today.

So I looked it up. He has 59 AB. Do you think that is a good sized sample?

I am really not trying to argue this but that seems awfully low.

He was hurt for first part of season. And as a catcher, with Kelly's emergence, is not getting the majority of starts. He is a very good #2.

Dbacks do score again, but leave bases loaded with Cron striking out.

Kevin Cron, the bench awaits.
