I don't get this comment. What makes it a child's game? Is it all the travel? Is it the intense scrutiny from fans and media? Is it the year round extreme diet and exercise regimen necessary to maintain the superb conditioning most of these athletes possess? It's no more a child's game than anything is. I don't feel sorry for these guys but it does an injustice to them to suggest what they do is nothing more than a child's game.

I think he is accusing the players union of being childish during the lockout negotiations.

Actually, I was referring to men getting paid millions of dollars for playing a schoolyard game.

But then, it is the players union that got them each millions of dollars for playing a schoolyard game, which includes football and baseball.

While general practitioner doctors are leaving their offices unable to cover their expenses and good teachers are finding jobs elsewhere.

But it's an absurd comment, IMO. Kids play chess too, that doesn't make it a kid's game. I started playing poker when I was 7 years old and again that doesn't make it a kid's game. There is a huge difference between the game little kids play in the schoolyard and the NBA game of basketball. It's hard work and you're kidding yourself if you don't think so. I think they're all overpaid but that's the way the world treats athletes, actors, rock stars etc.

Athletes aren't the reason doctors are unable to cover their expenses and they aren't responsible for teacher salaries either. I'm not sure why you're trying to draw a line between these separate issues.

It's not the players union that got them the money, it's the consumers who buy NBA gear, go to games and watch games on TV, ourselves included. The Western society tends to value (and reward) entertainment a whole lot higher than other forms of profession and all professional sports are just entertainment for the masses. If the players union didn't get the players that money, it would be the owners pocketing all the profits.
