Great cast. Could be good. Was going to post the trailer, but Warner Bros. has pulled it / blocked it in the US in the aftermath of the shooting in Colorado.

The trailer, which was attached to many screenings of The Dark Knight Rises features "gangsters with guns shooting up the inside of a theater."

Gangster Squad Trailer Yanked From Dark Knight Rises Following Colorado Shooting

Starring Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin and Emma Stone, Gangster Squad tells the story of the LAPD's attempt to keep East Coast Mafia types out of Los Angeles during the 1940s and 1950s. Around the two-minute mark of the trailer, a group of armed men enter a crowded movie theater and open fire.

The clip shows those inside the theater panicking and screaming as machine guns are shot.

I still cannot believe I saw this preview with this scene tonight when my wife and I went to TDKR. I was mortified.

Gangster Squad

Release Date: January 11, 2013
Studio: Warner Bros. Pictures
Director: Ruben Fleischer
Screenwriter: Will Beall
Genre: Drama
MPAA Rating: R (for strong violence and language)
Website: GangsterSquadmovie.com | Facebook

Starring: Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Nick Nolte, Robert Patrick, Michael Peña, Giovanni Ribisi, Anthony Mackie, Emma Stone, Sean Penn

Plot Summary: Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and--if he has his way--every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It's enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop...except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O'Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen's world apart. "The Gangster Squad" is a colorful retelling of events surrounding the LAPD's efforts to take back their nascent city from one of the most dangerous mafia bosses of all time.

one of the writer's on the staff was James Brolin's partner at the beginning of this movie.

I'll still see it, but my interest went way down when they announced they were making changes in the movie as a reaction to the theater shootings in Colorado.

I was under the impression that the only thing they changed was its release date. The scene in question remains in the film.
