I don't have a baseball calendar in front of me. But I serioously doubt the owners will go on record saying they are going to can Joe G. until the management team is approved by MLB.

Considering we also have some issues regarding signing and resigning players - they probably don't want to get handcuffed like the dodgers got last winter by not having a figurehead in place making the calls.

Or something like that.....

Moorad doesnt officially become a member of the Dbacks managing team until 9/1, which would be the day following the Waiver Trading Deadline.....

The Dbacks must sign Drew by Monday (if he does indeed attend class at Florida State), or the Dbacks would automatically lose his rights....If the Dbacks didnt announce a vote of confidence towards Joe Jr. at this juncture, then that would obviously compound that negotiation process a lot worse....

Interesting to note, Casey Close (the agent for Sexson) isnt set to meet with the Dbacks until 9/2, which signifies that Moorad probably believes Joe Jr. cant really close the deal (which to me suggests not having that much confidence)......

I think Joe Jr. will be the GM for just one year..helping Moorad ease through the transition, then once Moorad is accustomed to his role, Joe Jr will be terminated....This happened in Detroit when Dombrowski assumed complete control of personnel matters....He kept inept GM Randy Smith in his role initially, but fired him w/in 6 months because of some hurrendous moves he made after Dombrowski came on board......

It seems in most cases when someone receives a "VOC"...it immediately becomes the "Kiss of Death".....

The Vote of Confidence only needs to be given when someone is doing a horrible job and everybody knows it.

If I'm one of the owners I might say, "I feel confident that Joe can't make the team any worse than last in the entire league."

Beane doesn't get a periodic VOC. Why would he need that.

Joe Blows is history.

Question?

If Joe Blows goes does Joe Blowhard go with him?

Very good points. When presented like that, I can see it waiting awhile. As long as it does happen at some point. It has to.

I'm guessing yes. I cannot see Sr. sticking around if Jr. gets canned. Although, doesn't Sr. have some financial stake in the team?

I know I am in the minority, but I like it when Sr. is doing the color for the games. As boring and silly as his stories get, he gives a perspective of the game when the athletes were less about themselves and more about the team.

The game was so much different when he played it, and unless those stories get told, that becomes lost altogether.

Besides, I would rather listen to his stories than hear Thom talk in his condescending, know it all, matter of fact jibberish.

Thom is very smart and has a great voice for what he does, but I always feel like the guy is trying to explain the game as if I have never watched one before.
