And because this trade was not going to net us a championship this year (or even a future championship), it becomes an almost purely financial decision. You can't really blame Sarver and the front office for going the way they did.
Yeah, that would have been an expensive impulsive non guaranteed fix. Much like an escort.

How nice of you guys to think about Sarver and his pocketbook. The Suns are already well under the salary cap, which in my book is the minimum amount that an owner should expect to pay for his basketball team. I could give a rip that he saves $5-8mil due to insurance reasons. As a fan, if that money could win even one more game, or get them into the playoffs, then the money part of it should not be a consideration. I only look at it of the cost in players or picks. So, in my mind it was a late first round pick for Gasol, which I think is worth it when you already have 2 other picks. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, the Suns haven't selected a player in the first round at 17 or later that has contributed to their team in close to 20 years, yet now they are solid gold.

One cannot separate finances from player personnel decisions in major sports. The Thunder traded James Harden for a reason. There is a cost for every decision a franchise makes. The key is to make decisions wisely.

The Suns must have sold or traded those picks. Rondo anyone?

Making a move to avoid the salary cap is not the same as not making a move to save insurance money. Getting Gasol would not have put the Suns over the cap and would not have jeopardized any future cap space.

Suns didn't want Rondo, Boston did. No brownie points for that I am afraid.

Some folks are just Gasol fans I guess. It's obvious we aren't as smart as they are. :hanson:

You quoted a couple of sentences (as mine) that were not in my previous post. See below.

Please explain.

Sorry, rooking mistake on how to respond to two separate quotes. What was "added" to your post was actually my response to your comments.

That said, how do you break up quotes and respond accordingly?

I could care less about Gasol until he was available to the Suns. I have hated the Lakers since birth and was pissed when Memphis gave them two titles with a ridiculous trade.

That said, give me a guy with 20 points, 9 boards, .553 shooting %, 2 blocks per game and 2 championships under his belt for a late first round pick that has little chance of ever making a significant impact any day of the week.

I understand. Just wanted to make sure it was not intentional.

In regard breaking up posts for response, I usually copy the quote signs and paste as necessary.

Speaking of finances, we as fans would evaluate getting into the 1st round of the playoffs vs. one of the top teams in the league as good for the team now vs. bad for the future.

Isn't it fair to say that the banker from Tucson would evaluate one thing? The extra money in his pocket for making the playoffs. It is $arver we are talking about.

You keep boiling it down to this but nothing from the Lakers camp supports you. Every interview and every leak has made it clear they wanted more than just a late round pick from us.

You keep bringing up Pau's stats but what has the Laker's record been during that time period? How much is his being there helping the Lakers at the moment? Tonight they got killed, 142-94 against the Clippers who have a big frontline. His presence did nothing to slow down the Clip's big men either, 3 players had 10 or more rebounds for the Clip's. Pau put up a whopping 20 and 7 himself but basically all garbage minutes. On a good team he would be lucky to average 15-7. That wouldn't help the Suns much.

If Frye and Plumlee got back to the form they were earlier in the season the Suns will be better off without him now and in the long wrong because taking more minutes from the developing Markieff, Plumlee, and Len for someone who would be here 2-3 months and might give us 2 more wins in the season and maybe 1 extra win in a playoff series. Adding a player midseason isn't always seamless, especially a player like Pau whose game doesn't fit the style the Suns play.

Or the real world either. :D

What is your problem, do you really need to be a jerk? Dealing for Gasol was a national story and many were on the side of trying to get him, including Steve Kerr and others. I thought these kinds of debates were exactly the reason why people visit message boards.

You better believe it! Sun Devil through and through. Discussing ASU hoops is much more depressing than the Suns (not withstanding this year, which has been decent).

I apologize if I have offended thee. Please except this 3 month subscription to Gasol Weekly as a token of my appreciation.

Ok, now I see the problem. :)

My guess would be more Cat fans on this board than Devils. If I didn't grow up an ASU fan and went to school there then I would probably root for them too. I am extremely impressed with the team Miller has put together and think they have a great shot at the Title. Their D is suffocating.

Does anybody know what the Houston Rockets were asking for Asik? Either he or Gasol would have been huge improvements to our center position. We get almost nothing from the center and defensively they are pretty terrible. Bring back Bledsoe and get either of those centers and sky's the limit.
