10. ARIZONA
By the numbers: 2005 W-L: 6-10; Rankings: Off - 9; R-22; P- 4... Def - 30; R- 28; P- 23

2006 Picks:
Total - 7; (1) 10 (2) 41 (3) 72 (4) 107 (5) 142 (6) 177 (7) 218 ... The Cardinals have their normal complement of picks in each round starting with the 10th selection in the opening round.

Recent draft history:
The Cardinals have had a couple of excellent drafts the past couple of years adding star WR Larry Fitzgerald, LB Karlos Dansby and DT Darnell Docket with their first three picks respectively in 2004, while they appear to have found their CBs of the future with Antrel Rolle and Eric Green who were picked in the 1st and 3rd rounds last April. The Cardinals also added some useful players in the later rounds in both years including offensive linemen OGs Alex Stepanovich (4/2004) and Elton Brown (5/2005) and C Nick Leckey (6/2004), along with speedy WR/KR LeRon McCoy (7/2005). The Cardinals, in fact, have the NFL's best young WR tandem in Fitzgerald and 2003 second rounder Anquan Boldin, both of whom had 100 receptions plus last fall. The Cardinals, though, haven't got much from either of their first round picks in 2003 - WR Bryant Johnson or DE Calvin Pace - while their 2002 draft was a total washout. OT Leonard Davis, taken second overall in 2001, though, has also been solid enough, although he has never domintaed consistently, while DB Adrian Wilson, a 3rd round pick that year, has been one of the better safeties in the league the past few years.

2006 Needs: Are the long-beleagured Cardinals finally close to really turning things around in the desert. Arizona made one of the big splashes of the off-season free agent period when they signed star RB Edge James away from Indianapolis to help fix the NFL's worst running games. The Cardinals, though, still have some major holes to fill along the offensive line which gave up 45 sacks last season and 'propelled' the ground game at an anemic 3.2 yards per rush. Indeed, it wouldn't be a shock if the Cardinals used muliple early picks at the 2006 draft on the OL at both OT and OG. The Cardinals could also look to add a young arm to compete with John Navarre as Kurt Warner's back-up and possible ultimate successor. On the other side of the ball, the Cardinals will be looking for a long-term replacement for veteran FS Robert Griffiths, while they will also likely look to add another big body at DT as well as more speed at LB.

Prognosis: There probably isn't another team in the NFL that wants USC OT Winston Justice more than the Cardinals; however, they will likely have to seriously consider moving up to get the fast-rising former Trojan star. Failing that, the Cardinals can sit back and see hope that at least one of Ohio State LB A.J. Hawk, Maryland TE Vernon Davis or Texas DB Michael Huff falls their way, while they could also consider either of DTs Brodrick Bunkley of Florida State or Haloti Ngata of Oregon. And if the players on the board when they make the 10th pick overall don't really excite them, it likely means that at least one of QBs Jay Cutler of Vanderbilt or Vince Young of Texas, either of whom would make an attractive long-term replacement for the 35-year-old Warner, is still on the board. Meanwhile, the Cardinals should then have a shot at at least one, and perhaps several, of this year's top OGs including Max Jean-Gilles of Georgia, Deuce Lutui of USC and Pitt's Charles Spencer with their second round selection. I like this strategy. They seem to say that we'll take Justice/Bunkley if there first. Then one of the big OG's in the 2nd. Follow that with a FS OT or DT in the 3rd and we're good to go. We'll have addressed OT, OG and DT or FS 1st day.

Anyone else think Justice will be off the board in the top 9?

Anyone here feel inclined to pass on Hawk, Davis or Huff in order to draft Justice?

Finally - GBN's big, heavy red typeface gives me a headache.

If we stay at 10 - it's pretty much forgone that Hawk , Davis and Huff are all gone. Justice or Bunkley will be there and if we stay they make the most sense IMO.
