Am I missing something? There's not a thread about Gears of War 2?

Anyone else pick it up? I just brought it home and plan on staying up as late as possible playing. When I beat it I'll jump into the multiplayer.

Impressions so far?

The online is going to take a little getting used to. So far it seems like the sniper isn't nearly as effective as in the first game. Love the smoke grenade now and you can carry 4 grenades as opposed to only 2 in the first. So far so good. Horde is fun also, got to level 36 on my first try with a five member party. I think we could have finished if I was up until 4:eek:o in the morning.

Loved the first. Have not picked up the 2nd. There are so many games I want right now but little time to play them. I want NBA2K9, Gears of War 2 and Call of Duty World at War.

Sooner or later i will pick up this game.

Got it lastnight. Co-oped and got maybe a quarter of the way through I'm guessing... targeting is a little harder but you can do some cool finishes with wounded locust!!! Locust are harder to kill unless you get a head shot.

Looking forward to the horde scenarios!!!

New characters as well... Tai, and Dizzy so far...

Finished it a couple of days ago on the hardcore difficulty setting. I'd say its right in line with the first in terms of rating (which isn't a bad thing at all)

The Good:

- They at least try and have a storyline this time. Its not great by any means but its better than the first one. There is a little something plotwise that goes on after the credits FYI. If you don't want to wait for it I can tell you what happens
- Longer game than the first (this has 5 acts and 29 chapters total)
- No Kryll
- Higher difficulty as there a lot of bigger badder enemies and the Locust now have the ability to heal their own (just like you can heal your teammates)
- More weapons with a better balance than the first one
- Finishing moves
- Horde is a blast. Although it is kinda disappointing that it follows the same pattern of enemies every ten levels. They do get much harder to kill though

The Bad:

- No Berzerkers
- Vehicle controls still suck
- Some of the boss battles are really lacking. The best battle is actually in act 3
The final boss battle, if you can call it that, is very weak :thumbdown. You just have to repeatedly hit a mutant Brumack with the Hammer of Dawn

I'd highly recommend it to anyone who enjoyed the first

Beat it yesterday morning. Single player, IMO, was much better than the first game. Loved it. Probably my favorite single player experience in recent memory.

However, they completely ruined multiplayer. The matchmaking is terrible and broken, you cannot stop someone running at you with the chainsaw, the shotgun is basically broken, etc.

Horde mode is fantastic, but that's not enough for me to justify keeping it. It's probably going up on Craigslist here in the next day or two.

How much are you going to be looking to get for it? I'm interested in buying the game, wouldn't mind getting a used copy.

I agree somewhat on the multi player. The shotgun is terrible but that is fixable if they decide to. The lancer is joke, Everyone is chainsawing and lancering people down. They need to fix those two and I will be happy with the multiplayer. I like the maps and the new weapons.
