Gentry Waking Up?

I just heard a audio clip from today' practice. Gentry has finally acknowledged the the current lineup and rotation is not getting it done. He said they are looking at starting lineup changes and possibly a different rotation.

Hopefully this means Lopez to the bench. Not that it will solve all of our problems because it won't. However, Lopez doesn't deserve to be a starter.

Gentry at practice today : " OK..now I am going to start some other guys for the next ten games. We're gonna pull names out of the hat this time. The dartboard in the dark was far too dangerous, but the Gorilla is healing up nicely... Damn it!!...Who put the Gorilla's name in the hat?! Grant, I can trust you, hold the hat up by the backboard so Lopez can't get to it. "

It has to include Gortat into the starting lineup to maximize his time playing alongside Nash.

It should also include moving Frye to the 2nd unit, because if his 23 foot shot isn't falling, there is no position that he is appropriate for as a starter. Although his rebounds and blocks did improve, going from a D- to a C- doesn't help if the opposition is giving the time to C+ or better players who play Power Forward as it should be played.

Lastly, I wonder if Gentry will put Jared Dudley into the starting lineup. He deserves it, but whom do you bench?

Carter? Maybe, because he does his job only when he feels like it.

Grant Hill? Despite his age, he is our best defensive player. Even when he is not scoring, he makes a major contribution. It will be interesting.

Unfortunately, it could all change after another ten games, screwing up any rotation chemistry we hope to achieve.

Hill and Nash are the only two guys who deserve to start that have been starting. Based on hustle and smarts, I would put Dudley in the starting rotation along with Gortat. I guess we are stuck with Carter on as a starter, but both he and Pietrus have stunk it up for us.

The problem with Nash/Carter/Dudley/Hill/Gortat is the same one that has plagued us all season. A Point Guard, a Center and three Wings.

Starting Hill at PF against guys with muscles will wear him down and increase the probability of injury.

As much as I think that Frye is too soft for PF, and until we can get someone better, at least he can take the bodies his size without constant fear of injury or fatigue.

Yeah, I think my optimal starting lineup is Nash, Dudley, Hill, Frye, Gortat.

Mine is Dragic, Dudley, Childress, Josh Smith and Gortat backed up by 5 no name guys from the NBDL.

Nash,Dud,Hill,Warrick,Gortat ;)
From the choices we have, I agree with Warrick. He would bring excitement to the starting lineup and perhaps his shortcomings would be minimized playing next to a Center (Gortat) who knows what the game is about.

But, alas, the Suns have too much in an investment in Frye to not start him.

They'd probably get a call from Fry's Food Stores for the money they have invested in his TV commercials for them. "Yo, Gramma." But, hey, they haven't added the "e" yet. :)

That! We need to trade that guy ASAP. I am just wondering who would take him?
He shows up for big games, that's nice and all but we probably won't have very many big or important games in the near future. The game against the Knicks will probably end up being our high light of the year. That's pretty sad when beating the Knicks is ...

Can't trade him until the deadline as thats when the 60 day window passes.

Who would want him? Easy answer, anybody that wants an expiring contract (Denver comes to mind if they trade Mello)

IMO Lopez doesn't deserve to in the NBA.

Not starting Carter is just asking for off-court trouble.

The only potential trouble from Carter that I'm worried about is if he pulls a Marbury and refuses to be bought out at the end of the season*, if he hasn't been traded by then. Until then he can complain about coming off the bench and attempt to create locker room dissent all he likes.

*I don't think this can happen anyway as he has a buyout clause in his contract, but I could be wrong.

Carter can be bought out for 4M next season and Orlando sent Phoenix money to do this.

This team is less than the sum of the parts. Chemistry is terrible.

No wonder Orlando wanted to dump VC.

This was kind of along the lines of my point.

If someone wants him for more than an expiring contract, not starting him will make him fuss and cry and that brings down his value.

Carter can't do this because the team option is written into his contract. He WILL be bought out, regardless of what he wants.
