Wow, that's an impressive stat. I actually thought Bledsoe's defense was a bit over-sold from what I could see but I guess I'm severely underestimating/under-analyzing what he does to the team's defense as whole.

Steve,

I just ran across this stat:

The Suns are a top defensive team with Bledsoe, allowing 43.8 percent opponent shooting and going 16-8 when he plays. That would rank sixth in the league for defensive field-goal percentage.

Without him, the Suns allow 47.1 percent shooting, which would be third-worst in the NBA, and they have gone 4-4. Barbosa can’t fix that.

I think that helps us measure Bledsoe's impact on team defense.
6th best when he plays, 3rd worst when he doesn't. Pretty damn impressive, and it really makes sense. Bledsoe can handle the point guard, which means Dragic and Tucker don't have to guard the quickest guy on the floor. Bledsoe's presence makes Tucker and especially Dragic look better defensively.

Well, I've also maintained all along that he makes our inside guys better too. On those possessions when he is at full intensity he eats up a lot of the clock before they can really get into their offense. It's much easier to guard someone if you only have to do it for 6 to 8 seconds. Thanks for the information though, it supports what I thought I was seeing.

I wonder whether Dragic's defense is better with Bledsoe because Bledsoe can spare Dragic some ball-handling responsibilities. I often see Dragic look completely gassed near the ends of games, especially if Bledsoe has been absent or ineffective.

I think that stat is interesting. I have always been convinced that the importance of defense at the pg position is vastly underrated. When you give an opposing pg free reign, it makes it ALOT harder defensively for everyone on the court. I saw that with KJ years ago. KJ was not known as a great defender but could be when he decided to. It made all the difference.

That is why comparing Goran and Eric is a little difficult. There are things that Eric brings on the defensive end that are hard to quantify.

bledsoe always impress me
The question is, when he comes back at full strength, will he impress as a possible primary Point Guard or undersized Shooting Guard?

It is ironic that a few weeks ago, I compared Eric to Barbosa (on offense) and Leandro is now back to cover for his absence.

You're talking to a guy who just quick-posted twenty useless four word posts so that he could start a thread to advertise a product. Don't feed the troll.:)

Yea I just realized that as well. It now shows me that I have a lot of unread threads even though I actually don't.

Yes, I finally saw that, too, when I counted his 17 4-5 word posts in a short span . . . which said nothing.
