PORTLAND, Ore. -- Trail Blazers forward Rudy Fernandez was taken from the court on a stretcher with his neck in a brace after he was fouled hard by Trevor Ariza in the fourth quarter of Portland's game against Los Angeles Lakers.

Odom better be in street clothes next game or I'm eating Stern's children tomorrow night.

Latest news:

Fernandez was conscious and alert as he left the floor, with full movement of all extremities. He sustained a soft-tissue injury to his right chest and side area and was to remain overnight in an area hospital, but diagnostic tests showed no major damage.

For what? Are you kidding me? Ariza hit the ball and Fernandez's hand. It was almost a clean block.

FAIL.

He hit his head. I don't think it should be 5 games, but it should be at least one. I would be ok with 2.

He went for the ball, he chopped and missed. If you aren't going to go up straight, then you have to be prepared for what comes next.

After watching it again, he did catch Fernandez's head with a glancing blow, but Ariza was definitely going for the ball. If he had undercut him then I could see him being suspended. As it is, he will probably get one game so the NBA can save face.

He didn't 'miss'. He got a lot of ball on that play. No intent to injure, IMO.

He did miss. He got all wrist/hand on the play and no ball.

He went up high after the ball. Should all breakaways be uncontested now, like the All Star Game? That's why the NBA has lost so much popularity the last 15 years. It used to be a man's game.

You can tell Fernandez is from Europe the way he needed a stretcher like he plays soccer for Real Madrid or something.

What is up with some of these Lakers? I know Phil preaches to them 'toughness and play physical' but some of these guys are not too bright. That's 2 players they've injured with flagrant fouls.

No kidding, they need to to reserve their toughness for the postseason, it was slightly amusing to see Mbenga thumping his chest as Ariza prepares to leave the arena, where was that fist when the Cs schooled em last season.

Why did all of the Blazers insist on fighting? None of them checked to see if Rudy was ok.

Lakers are down 30? That guy didn't try to block the shot. The way he wound up and took that huge swing was obviously meant to send a message.

CHEAP SHOT!

I love how they just let him lay on the floor in pain while their main priority is to stop players from getting suspended for fighting

I just looked it up. None of the Blazers players have any medical training whatsoever.

Hard foul. Hope Rudy is okay.

NBA just announced no suspension for Ariza.

What's lame is you comparing Ariza's foul to Bertuzzi.
Nah-uh....both of them were unnecessary cheap shots.

Also I would love to see if you would need a stretcher after being airborne, getting hit in the head and having you body bouncing off the floor.
