That is funny you used the word CRAP since I think that is what this movie is going to be. The Cobra crew looks great, but the Joe's look terrible.

As much as I want to see Snake-Eyes vs. Storm Shadow...I think I'll pass on the changes made to the source material:

Concerned about the current negative image of the American military in many countries, Paramount Pictures and Hasbro, the toy manufacturer, have decided that in their forthcoming film featuring comic-book patriot G.I. Joe, the character will become part of a multinational force, the London Daily Telegraph reported today (Tuesday). Even the character's name has become an acronym for Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity, the newspaper said.

does someone truly believe this movie is going to make over 75 million opening weekend?? That will be crazy if it does but something tells me that's not gonna happen.....just a little hunch.

I hope it's huge. Over the weekend I was in Glendale on my way back from Mexico. My dad's brother in law has a daughter who is married to one of the screenwriters on GI Joe.

From what I was told he and his partner wrote the original screenplay, there was a change in director or something and they fired the writers and brought in new people to redo the script. When the final script was seen, it had large sections that were written by the 2 original writers so the producers wound up having to give them screenwriting credit. So if the film does well, he will make a lot of money off it.

Really nice guy too, he was also a screenwriter on the 4 Brothers movie which had similar issues with massive changes by the studio to the original script. I guess that's really common in hollywood.

Hold on. I feel like I've slipped back to my former life and I'm at an industry party on Mulholland. :D

It's got a Quaid and his Q rating is huge.

And thanks to Brian in Mesa my well-placed bet could make me an A$FN millionaire for the first time!

That's definitely not true. It's a very good movie, unless you grew up with the show. Then I know, since I went to the movie and discussed it afterward with a film major and GI Joe fan, there's plenty to complain about when comparing to the cartoon. For what it is, an action movie based on children's toys, it's pretty damn good. It's the type of film, which even better than Transformers, captures what you'd imagine the world would be like when you were a child playing with the action figures. The film-making does seem sloppy in certain parts, but to say it's as bad as can be makes no sense to me.

I think I'll be going to see it agian tomorrow night because some friends are going...and it looks like I may win the first bet I made on here. :)

What you do not realize about this movie is that a large percentage of movie goers are in the age bracket the grew up with the cartoon and the way it is getting blasted be the media is making the 30+ plus crowd avoid it. As someone who watch every single episode as kid and owned a ton of the toys and VHS tapes, I want to watch something that reminds me of that, not a action movie that has a few exact characters and then some other similarities. That is why the first Transformers was so great IMO since it translated from the cartoon the the screen so well.

How did you get hosed? Shane does not declare a winner until offical numbers are out.

The bet has already been settled based upon unofficial weekend studio estimates which were $ 56.2 million when the official figures were $ 54.7 million as announced today. I got hosed because I wagered on the $ 45-55 million category.
