There is such a thing as team chemistry, and a manager is part of that. In season, when you have a team that has been so miserably bad as the Dbacks have been, about all you can do to change that is fire coaches and/or managers.

But, I agree, any new manager is going to have the same problems with Towers in place doing the deals.

Look at Bob Melvin. You guys and the media couldn't stand him here. Yet, he goes to Oakland, with a GM that has serious mojo for building pitching staffs and getting role players to fit perfectly together, and Melvin is one of the top managers in MLB the past couple of years. Hell, he can't do anything wrong when it comes to managing his pitchers. Even his offensive moves turn up golden way more than they did in AZ. Monday, they trail the Angels 2-1 in the top of the 9th. He pulls Daric Norris who is his HR hitting catcher and replaces him with John Jaso. Jaso comes in and crushes a 2 run HR and the A's win. His closer Jim Johnson had struggled, and he switches him into the setup role. His next two appearances he shuts down the Angels and gets 2Ws.

It has been so frustrating to see nothing Gibson does seem to work. It's not all his fault, but this team is seriously sick right now.

It's Whiz/Graves v.2.0. Good coach paired with a crummy GM. Whiz isn't without warts, but many of Graves's poor talent evaluation and negotiation skills got both terminated. Had Keim been the main decision maker instead of Graves, I think Whiz is still here. JMHO.

Disagree there. Whiz had a big role in personnel choices. Don't think Gibby has as big of a place at KT's table when it comes to acquisitions and trades as Whisenhunt did.

Loved Melvin and didn't want him to go. I like Gibby and am really trying to give him the benefit of the doubt but am losing patience. KT needs to go for sure but Gibby might need to go too even though I thought otherwise a week or so ago.

Sometimes managers need to go even if its not their fault.
The pitching staff is a joke but the team is obviously lost.

This team has traded real talent for a mirage of "grinders." Hustle alone only goes so far. Baseball is a game of talent and skill. So why have they done that? Why is it that top notch talent seems to play so poorly for the Diamondbacks and so well elsewhere?

Gibby is the problem. And Towers should go because he made the problem worse by trading away the talent that Gibby did not know how to handle.

This article basically explains how it would take a monster miracle for the Dbacks to make the playoffs at this point.

Since they have no chance do they really want Towers to make moves that may damage the long term success of the team even more? Wasn't it pretty much consensus that Towers would be gone if the Dbacks missed the playoffs?

IMO Towers should be fired NOW. And if they're not going to fire him they need to suspend all of his trade privileges.

My guess is his trading privileges are suspended, but it's hard to fire a GM mid season without an internal replacement, which there really isn't in this disaster of an organization.

I love this quote by Montero

First of all, I just want to say that I've been reading all the comments about Gibby and KT and I just would be very disappointed if something happened to them. The bottom line is, it's our responsibility to go out there and take care of business. I just wanted to say that, because the blame should be on us. It should be on the players, it should be on us, because we haven't played the way we are supposed to play.

With Steve mentioning that Gibby was moving up on the D'backs list for games won as Manager (he is now #2, behind Melvin), I was curious where he stood for losses. He is now . . . #2, behind Melvin.

Here is the status as of today.

MANAGER.......WON-LOST.......PCT

Melvin............337-340......... .498
Gibson............305-305........ .500
Brenly............303-262........ .536
Showalter.......260-236........ .514
Hinch..............89-123......... .420
Pedrique..........22- 61......... .265
Backman...........0 - 0.......... .000 :)

Gibby is at exactly .500 in his regular season career with the D-backs
and was .500 last season and .500 the season before.

It is a record of Managerial mediocrity, isn't it?

He just takes his Lefty/Righty strategy very literally in all aspects of his life. Win/Loss Win/Loss...
