gil bryant likes pace and johnson..quite a bit..and he likes antoine in round 2...

he said wake forest does not have a weight program (lifting) and pace can get alot stronger...he said johnson was way underutilized at penn state due to their offense..he thinks the cardinals got better and likes both players..

I thought pace was a strong guy with a big bench press..

who cares. The question is can these two guys play to the level of 1st round pick. If Pace wasn't lifting weights in college who can tell if he can survive in the NFL. Pace will be this years Dennis Johnson but pick higher.

Yeah...He benches 450lbs. Imagine what he can do with a weight program.

I trust Gil Brandt more than any other analysts. He built some pretty dominate teams in Dallas, and he knows good football players.

He actually really liked our draft. He really liked Pace, and I do though I think he is a reach.

If Pace and Johnson mature this year then we are set on our pass rusher.

I would imagine a rotation of some sort between kvb, johnson and pace..johnson and pace would be in on supposed pass downs and kvb on running plays.. suggs sounds better than pace in this rotation..but hopefully we are improved over last season.

I heard one of the interviews on KDUS....one of the interviewees said that he thought Suggs was a bad fit for us, and is a 3-4 OLB.

But this is all speculation. If we can't provide heat on the opposing QB then we will be back on the draft board looking for a pass rusher.

Exactly.

The Iraqi Information Minister says that Gil Brandt knows nothing about football. Brandt has never watched football, has never played football, and has never scouted players. He had nothing to do with a Dynasty in Dallas. He is an infidel, and he will have his throat cut. :D

Im really excited for these players that the Cardinals drafted and will come into training camp pumped up to prove themselves to all of you-haha. The Cardinals got a lot better today- trust me. On that note lets all get some sleep. Does anyone realize the NFL's All-Time Leading rusher will be wearing an Arizona Cardinals uniform in 2003??? Its time to get ready for the 2003 season my friends.

Go Cards/ America!

Well the ravens are putting him as OLB...

As good as he might be at pass rush, I would much rather have guys that are more balanced...

We can get a pass rush with 4 linemen, not just one great one...

Wake Forest does have a weight program...It was started after Jim Grobe became head coch a few years back. Pace is a solid player with great athleticism who has a huge upside. A reach at 18? Perhaps, but we dont know who was goign to take him.

With the run on D-Lineman in round 1 , I guarnetee yuou he doesnt last to 37!

I think maybe gil brandt was working on old information on the weight lifting comment...but seems he has watched film on pace and thought he was a very good player...

While I have no idea, perhaps Gil is refering to the quality of their program vs. the elite college or NFL weight lifting programs.

Just an idea.

Go Cards!!!

Good post.

Pace was a late riser. Apparently some teams called the Cards after we took Pace, and told us that they would've picked him soon.

Pace is actually a better athlete than Suggs.

I have to laugh....Good post....

I still liked Suggs and think he will more of an impact sooner than Pace.

BTW...if Pace did not lift weights at WF then what makes us think he can grow???? A little risky to find out. He may turn out to be slower if he puts on weight. Then instead of a pass rush specialist we get a run stuffing DE...

Well he did bench as much as Suggs! :D

I like Pace, but not at 18.....at 25 he would've been better, though his stock rose so much that he might have been gone.

at the end of the day...if the cardinals would have came out of the draft with the same 2 receivers, same linebacker and suggs...we would get an "A" and everyone would be happy. Since we got Pace instead of suggs..everyone is thinking we get a "D" or something (per national press - and az republic is pretty negative this AM - they love suggs).

At the end of the day...none of this matters. What does matter in like 3 years is how good of a pro suggs is vs. pace. I am a big suggs fan and wanted us to take him - but from what I understand pace is a little taller, a little faster and a little stronger (although it is hard to tell - his workout #'s (Pace) I have seen posted are all over the place). Seems when pace was trying to improve his speed he ran a 4.6 - and suggs ran a 4.85 (both within the past couple of weeks) - but this is subject to clarification...and pace is a bigger. Long arms are key for a pass rusher - and pace seems to have that. The big dropoff appears to be in pass rush moves/ability to get to qb...suggs is one of the best - and we seem to know nothing about pace in this regard....

So...we shall see in a couple of years. Right now I would rather have suggs (clearly)..but this could change with production.

Personally..I think cincy got the biggest shaft - I am not sold at all on carson palmer - and he was the #1 pick...

Sure wake Forest has a weight room.

But when you compare it to the one at a real power school, like Nebraska or Florida State, it is more like an old broom closet with a single light bulb hanging from the ceiling.

Which is about when his contract will end and he'll go sign with another team......Right???

The one thing I like about this pick is that Rod Graves' job will totally hinge on it: If it fails, everyone will agree that he has to be fired at the end of the season; if he suceedes, everyone will want him to stay for the long haul.....
