Why not, he can carry any old weapon he wants here? He doesn't even need a permit!

Before we start fitting every player being amnestied into a Suns uni, let's remember that most, if not all, of these players will likely be claimed off of waivers by teams under the cap, so this really won't be an option.
Not that I really want to see Areans here, but Richard Jefferson would have been a nice pickup. It won't happen however unless the over-the-cap teams trade for those players with the under-the-cap teams that claim them.
There is not a chance in hell any team claims Gilbert on waivers. He has the worst contract in the league, he could be owed HALF of what he is an he would still go unclaimed.
I love most former Wildcats, but I am not wild about Gilbert. He is kinda like Marbury in that he totally dominates the ball to setup his own inefficient scoring opportunities. He could be an effective weapon in our system but he would have to completely change his playing style to conform to more of a spot up shooter.
We have already seen Vince Carter roll through town (from the Magic no less) and be unable to make his ball dominating play style fit into our ball movement offense.
I don't think it works that way. I think they just submit a bid and assume the responsibility for that portion of his contract. He may still go unclaimed but not because of his unwieldy contract.

The Suns can't bid because they are over the cap. Only teams with cap room can bid and only up to the amount of cap space they have.If the Suns wanted him I am sure they could bid and get him, I dont see a lot of teams fighting over him, but I hope the Suns dont want him.

It saved the Suns about $4M this season, but the Suns were already over the cap even without Hill signing because of the various cap holds. Then you add Brown at $3.5M and, needless to say, the Suns will not be making any bids. But their overall payroll should be about $10M less than last year I think, maybe even more.Griffin, do you know how much positive impact the Pietrus trade had on the cap and if it helped? I know Grant Hill signed signed for more than I expected.
