This is hilarious. If you have two third round picks does only one count? Can you only keep one player from each round?

I agree with you though. Great trade and great pick.

It's an extra pick. Extra as in we still have a pick in the 3rd round. Trading extra picks is like playing with house money

SK played his poker hand very well mainly by letting the draft come to him instead of forcing the issue.

Instead of spending a lot of draft capital to move up to the top 5 he held at #15 until the cost to move up was a reasonable gamble that would not mortgage future drafts.

The 2 picks in the 3rd round (one that came courtesy of CC leaving in FA) was the spare change he found in his pocket + the 5th round pick. That's not much to spend at the casino that is the draft. Even if Rosen is a bust Cards will live to draft another day. If Rosen shows that the 'first nine picks were mistakes' we'll have the draft choices to continue to bring in new talent and support him at QB.

SK showed why he is a GM and those on fan forums are not. For weeks we've had a running debate that looked at the extremes of the choice on trading up via multiple draft picks or staying put at #15. SK worked the middle of that argument by keeping the gamble completely within this draft class but still got one of the 'top' guys at QB.

The Rosen pick should light the fire under both Bradford and Glennon to compete for their NFL futures. It will be a win for the Cards if either Bradford or Glennon rise to the challenge. It will be a win for the Cards if Rosen comes in and pushes the two vets aside and seizes the day (and the job).

Got to feel good about our QB room when you consider that at the start of FA we did not have a single QB on the roster---now we got 2 vets and a highly-rated rookie.

Here's your testicles back SK---you earned them.

Awesome post with one exception, SK has never given up his testicles. All he did was prove to some that he has big brass ones.

Actually, plenty of posters ripped them off and rolled them out onto I-17 . . . during rush hour.

Can we see how this plays out before we start erecting a statue in his honor?

A lot of people are relieved that SK made a move for a QB but also did not bankrupt our future drafts. He hit the middle ground and gave some hope to the fan base---at least the ones who visit this forum.

After all, it will be easier to erect a statue now that SK has his testicles back and intact and already made of brass.

You're Amelia Earhart, alone and running out of water, screaming at the sun and waves. Blind and now delusional.
Lol. Go ahead a put misplaced confidence in Rosen. Last draft was the time to make this kind of move. I give Keim credit for taking a swing, but the ball was low and away....

This is why gamblers lose. Money is money. A 3rd round pick is a 3rd round pick. It doesn't matter that you have two. The Cardinals have plenty of holes to fill and that pick had value to them. They gave up something.

That said, it was a fairly small price to pay considering and was well worth it. Picking at nits here.

At this point in time, the Rosen pick is a low risk gamble that required a 3rd and a 5th to take.

The jury will be out on the pick for at least two years after Rosen is installed as the starter.

Hopefully the 'personality issues' are simply based on first impressions and body language and not something that teammates will react to. We need the team to rally around him and we need his play to become less about him and more about team success. It's required to demand success of yourself, it's mandatory that you instill that in your teammates. The locker room will tolerate personality issues as long as they are winning.

Of bigger concern is the health issues. Two concussions last year in quick succession. Remember Kevin Kolb, Ryan Swope---both who walked away from the game over jeopardizing their future health. Probably too late for Kolb who still suffers from the long-term effects. Believe it was a big part of Warner's concern as well after getting KO'd in the Saints game. Kevin Kolb on his concussion issues:

Shoulder issues as well going back to high school for a guy with average arm strength to begin with. He's also slow as molasses (4.9 40 at the combine)---350 lb DL will run him down should he try to scramble. Better get some beef along the OL for him and also for Bradford.

Rosen's combine notes and evaluation:

Need one of our three QBs to step up and take command of the starting job. Let the competition begin!

If it was as you say, then BB would have turned the Browns into a powerhouse .
I think he would have eventually. Of course he would have needed a QB. The Browns were a dumpster fire. It would have taken many years to improve that franchise. I watched a show about BB and they had practiced the exact play that Malcolm Butler made to win the SB. They were ready for the exact play at the exact time. The is hour thorough BB prepares.

And he tomahawked it out of the park.

I REALLY like the pick and am super excited, but isn't it premature to call it a home-run before Rosen actually proves he's a real talent on the field?

I can't believe what little they had to give up, especially after what the Saints had to give up to go get a T???

We either got Aaron Rodgers or Jay Cutler in Rosen (assuming we didn't get Sam Bradford Part II). Talent for sure, but weird too. Whether or not he can be a leader of men will be the deciding factor, I think.

Even if this ends up being a miss, it won't set the franchise back for years. We'll emerge from this year's draft with future capital intact, which is simply unreal, considering the talent SK just stole!

Judging by #AZCardinals fans reaction on twitter, Steve Keim’s IQ increased about 100 points between 5 and 7 last night.

Good post - i'm just wondering about the "average arm strength" part. Apparently he had the third-highest ball velocity at the combine (out of 19):
http://www.ourlads.com/story/default/Quarterback-Ball-Velocity-at-2018-NFL-Combine/10241/dh.

...dbs

Hi Daves! There's a difference between arm strength and velocity of a throw. We actually had a long discussion on the difference between the two on another recent thread---for the life of me I don't recall which one. We had some info there on the physics and oaken1 posted several explanatory comments. Perhaps those physics majors can chime in here.

Here's my stab at the difference. Think of a small child picking up a toy and giving it everything with a throw. The velocity will be high---check out the 'funny home videos' with Dad getting the high-velocity toy in the groin. But the child does not have the arm strength to make that same high velocity throw all the way across the yard---if he tries to hit Dad on the other side of the yard the toy just slams into the ground a few feet in front of the kid.

So Rosen has the high-velocity. It is getting the ball down the field with that same velocity that has him with 'below average arm strength.'

Rosen would not have been a choice of BA who looked for arm strength and velocity for his 6 deep plays per game (that would have been Allen). Rosen can be more than adequate in a offense that is played 10-15 yards deep. His arm strength there is adequate along with his plus velocity.

Keim is an above average G.M. He fleeced the Raiders. Kudos to him!
