He will have minimal impact to the team this year in either a positive or negative way.

Agree...except if he is on his best behaviour that guy could be a big contributer off the bench. There are not many teams that have a career 20 PPG scorer on it. He can put up points in a hurry. SM is better then SC last year IMO and he will play the same role. That potentially makes the bench better then last years.

He gives em up just as quick though.

Does it matter? The Celtics didn't bring Sam in for his defense either. Sam couldn't cover an old lady using a walker and it didn't appear to hurt them.

They brought him in to get some points off the bench. It's the same role they are asking SM to play. However, I bet Starbury does it much better.

One game? Come on. And did he even guard Kobe? Or was it Crawford? As if it matters....

SM has always had a reputation for being a weak defender.

Im just glad he didnt become a Laker. The Celts can have him.

He defended Parker much better than any Suns player has done so far. I recall his problem used to be defending PnR, too. But that's mainly an issue of will. And playing for nothing on a bad Knicks team wouldn't inspire much willingness to work hard on defense.

If anything, Starbury will be guarding second team point guards. I'm not too concerned with his defense on starters, thats Rondo's problem. Starbury will be guarding the second team PGs.

I think some Laker fans are worried that if Starbury behaves himself and really brings an impact, that he makes the Celtics bench that much deeper. That could potentially nullify any additional depth the Lakers have this year on their own bench should they meet in the finals. Lakers fans are saying they are "glad" he is not on their team but that is assuming the "bad Marbury" shows up.

It's a big if...but... if he behaves.... he can drop 20 points off that bench at any time. That cannot be just shrugged off no matter how much they want you to believe that. Marbury is probably going to have a field day against 2nd team guys.

You might be getting a one dimensional starter in Marbury but he is no scrub like Sam Cassel was last year. Your getting a legit starter coming off your bench which cannot be understated.

Again....it's a big IF with Marbury but worth the risk IMO.

First off, I could care less if Marbury is on the Celts or not. I just don't want him on our team. It's a moot point to the Lakers because I truly believe the Lakers will not be playing the Celts again this year. I have said all year long that the Cav's will come out of the east and I still believe that. Hopefully the Lakers will make it there as well. But nothing is guaranteed as we all know.

During the playoffs, starters play more minutes and most coaches go from a 8 to 10 man rotation to a 7 to 8 man rotation with bench players minutes reduced from what they were playing in the regular season. If you really think Marbury is going to be getting 20 off the bench then I have a bridge or two to sell you. Could he in a game here or there in garbage time? Of course. But not likely.

Regardless, even if the Lakers should meet the Celtics in the Finals, I am not worried. If a 32 year old Marbury, who has never won squat with any team he has played on and has not played all year becomes a difference maker in a 7 game finals series.... then whoever losses to them, Lakers or not, were simply not deserving.

Stephon Marbury? Com on.... Truly, we are not at all worried.:D

I believe it was he "could" get 20 off the bench. The Celtics unlike some teams use their bench. They used Sam in the playoffs. So, to assume they wouldn't do the same with a better bench player in Marbury is what I call wishful thinking. Again, Marbury off the bench is probably MUCH better then Sam off the bench. In a 7 game series loaded with starting talent, the bench can often make the difference in a close contested series.

Also, the fact Starbury has never won anything is not a factor IMO. Ray Allen had never won anything before last year. KG had never won anything before last year. Paul Pierce had never won anything before last year. They are not asking him to lead the Celtics. A huge difference.

I am not convinced the Cavs are deep enough to beat the Celtics in a 7 game series but then again, I wouldn't be surprised if the Cavs come out of the East either.

Its sad that laker fans can be so right and suns fans can be so wrong about SM, a terrible defender. Tony Parker has owned him every year since his rookie season, just owned him.

Marbury always finds a way to look good on the court. The main problems with him happen in the locker room. See how the Big-Three go along with SM

If it becomes a problem he will get cut. The Celtics FO, Doc, the players...they all know it. It's not like Marbury has a choice. He is either on his best behavior or he is gone. Not an issue IMO.
