Don't know if that is true, but it's only a matter of time before RWill is called to the actives to replace him

The problem has always been that Smith plays on special teams and Williams doesn't... from a pure RB perspective, I'd definitely like to see R-Will over Smith at this point.

He should have never been put in that situation. Go with the guys that got you there in critical times of the game.

I agree with this, esp since BA states he doesn't like RB by committee, but he does it by bringing in Taylor and Smith for a couple of snaps each when the other 2 are doing fine.

That was a really dumb roster move to have him running cold with the game on the line. Just odd. Similar decision earlier with Stephan getting a cold touch buried within our own 10 yard line.

Yep.

But it is time for Smith to be special teams only.

We have 3 good backs to run the ball, Alfonso Smith won't ever have the skills to get in the open field to use his speed.

Fumbling the ball in crucial situations doesn't help either, we could have kept Wells around to do that.

Buckybird, we really have NO IDEA what RW can do, though we do know that he, like RM, doesn't play ST. As a fan I'd like to find out if can RUN THE BALL. If BA wanted a RB who can excel in PASS PRO, he should have kept Sherman. JMUO.

All notes from the ORG have said hes fine and practicing fully

Cardsfanmd is friends with Arian's brother in law. I know that because I've met his family. William's knee still isn't right. Arian's went to HS in York, PA. His wife's family still resides here in York. Williams not playing ST's is coachspeak more than anything else.

It looked good in game 4 of the preseason

Wasnt his knee fixed 2 years ago? if it still hasnt healed it may never do so.

Ya, if this friendship-based injury report is true....

the Cards are keeping a RB with an iffy knee around as insurance against an RB injury. Yet, playing A Smith because he is fast but not much else and Step-fan Taylor who is not fast but not much else. And NotMendbutFall because he is a former Steeler and not much else.

The top 3 guys are all we need. Ellington is the breakaway threat and the 3rd rounder. Mendenhall is the steady guy, and Taylor is the few carries here and there guy.

Mendenhall had several really tough runs there where he got yards that weren't there. Taylor did it on 2 runs, one of them literally he turned a 1 yard loss into a 3 + yard gain. Ellington is playing lights out. There is simply no need or no room for Smith unless someone gets hurt during a game which wasn't the case yesterday.

BA said that Smith is the best pass protector, which is why he plays in the 2 minute offense, which makes sense and also means that once that role is filed by Taylor, he becomes expendable. Taylor actually looked faster off the line on his two plays - he is coming along nicely.

how ironic is that then. We have him in for pass pro, we run the ball, and he fumbles.

Exactly.

Even with pass protection one of the other backs should work and if we do audible to a run we have someone that can hold onto the ball.
