In all fairness, if Carter could have been half the player JRich was when we traded him and Nash was healthy, I really do feel like this team could have been much better. Not title better but certainly not what we ended up with.

even if all that happened (and Nash being healthy in the second half of seasons just can't be counted on and other teams were dealt crushing blows - NO with West - and didn't crater), we still would have MAYBE BARELY made the playoffs.

again, we ended 6 games back... that's pretty bad.

In a van...down by the river.
yes, but taking a "now" approach with a team that sucks doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
Well this was my take essentially. That and trading away a young player who doesn't fit your system when that same system is about to end.
Including the pick was just dumb regardless.

Dragic was Kerr's pick, and he was supposed to be the heir apparent to the end of Nashball IMO. Unfortunately Goran's game(like many other PG's) just didn't translate while still being the primary backup. So the Suns panicked....shocker. Now we don't have anyone who can run an NBA offense post-Nash. Dowdell shows some promise but Goran was that guy IMO.

Its such a frickin mess.

And J-Rich was not all that good as some fans make him out to be in hindsight.

He was erratic and inconsistent like Carter at times. He had a hot start into the season but he cooled off later.

JRich really did not perform any better than Carter when we first traded for him. People were cursing the Charlotte trade and saying that Dudley was the only good thing about that trade and it seemed like few people liked J-Rich until he played great against Portland in the playoffs.

There is a big difference though. JRich clearly was having trouble fitting in right after the trade versus Carter literally being a shell of his former self. I never once looked at JRich and said man...that dude can't move or he is not quick. Carter was just the opposite. Maybe he did have trouble fitting in but clearly he physically is not the same player.

I think the main point here is that the entire league recognized JRich last season and the 1st half of this season as being one of the best SG in the league.

So, in hindsight that changes nothing. The entire league (coaches, players and analysts) were giving him high praise and kudos and it was deserved as well. I don't see how hindsight changes any of that.

difference is Carter just got worse and worse while J Rich found his niche eventually.

Never did like the Dragic trade. I hope both he and Brooks does good though.

And that we get a new owner and some good talent scouts and a little bit of luck. And get rid of the ORNG suits and bring back the classic purple with the western style fontface.
