Is the Gordan Giricek experiment over?

4:59 minutes, 0-3 FG, 0-2 3PT, 1 REB, & -8 +/-

D’Antoni routinely has a short leash on new/bench players.

He probably should have received more minutes at the end of the 3rd, beginning of the 4th, but he had a bad game.

I think Barbosa has a complex where he can't play well against this team, a la Marion.

I cringe when LB drives the ball inside against the Spurs. His decision making is just plain poor and he does not handle the ball well in traffic. I always get this sick feeling when LB passes up an open 3 point shot (which is a good shot for him) and choses to get closer to the basket.

Giricek's offense so far has been worse than advertised but his defense has been a lot better than I expected. I think he warrants a little more time but I think he could fit in quite well.

Unless Gordan can get his offense on track and cut down on his silly fouls, he's not going to be in the rotation for much longer. DJ could bring the same defensive intensity and could brick open shots just as well. DJ would be a hell of a lot quicker and is better at stealing the ball too.

giricek is having a hard time fitting in much like grant hill did. good/okay D, but the range is not there.
the thing is, we HAVE to make shaq work. but i dont think theres much, if any, we can do for giricek at the moment as far as experimenting with playing time.
he's gritty, has nice size for a guard, but he's limiting his own playing time by his lack of offense. only in the suns sytem that'll happen.lol i'm sure he'll come around a little more.

Yeah, that shot will fall, give him some time...his defense is worth giving him a chance.

Well, he better get it together if he wants PT. It just seems Mike gives up on guys if they can't score 10 or more every game. Its really kind of immature and unfair. Either way, Gordon didn't have a great game, but I don't think it was terrible.

GG looked like he had a pretty good line yesterday. Anybody who actually watched the game care to comment? Did he get his during the 20 ish minutes of garbage time or was he actually contributing within the context of a normal rotation?

Both. But he still can't shoot from the outside. Hopefully that will come in time.

He also showed he isnt exclusively a 3pt chucker. He was intense on defense, drove to the rim plenty of times, and can create plays for the team. I think you can tell he is happy to be here too.

He looked good to us. Active on defense, tried a variety of moves on offense, good energy.

Last night he actually impressed me. I was skeptical of the Suns bringing in another spot-up shooter. Giricek has shown that he can really create his own shot and give some scoring off the bench.

Plus, he played some PG when Nash was not on the floor. Pretty good pick up IMO

Giricek definitely had a much better game against the Grizzlies. He still took a few ill-advised shots with a defender in his face (made one of them), but his activity level was great. He seems to like to try to create his own shot and he has some ability to do so, but he isn't really great at creating space to get off his jumpshot.

The Suns offense is more about ball movement & taking open shots and only taking contested shots when the shot clock is running out. As he gets more shaqlimated to the team, hopefully he'll start working harder by moving without the ball to get open shots instead of trying to create jumpshots off the dribble. Maybe he can take some lessons from Grant Hill on how to create space for a jumper.

Giricek looked good against the Griz but they are not much of a challenge. He defended fairly well - I'd have liked to see him defending against Gay more. He switched onto him a couple of times that I recall - getting burned once but forcing him to give up the ball the other time. I hope he stays focussed on defense and doesn't get too caught up with trying to create shots for himself. He looks like the kind that enjoys being a volume scorer - sometimes we can use that but I sure don't want that to be his primary mode.

Giricek shows an intensity on defense that has to be appreciated.

The most valuable thing about Giricek is his composure on the court, calm. He may not be the best defender out there but he makes his men work hard to get their points, making them feel uncomfortable. On the other hand, knowing his jumpers unavailable yet, he made the best out of the situation by driving to basket. What looks like his only barely getting up his layups, however, has been very successful. I'm definitely impressed. His offensive skill is definitely better fitting to the current Suns with Shaq than LB and Bell.

Someone tell Gordan his new name is B12, because he has been a shot in the arm off the bench.

GG looks better than advertized. He hustles on defense and is a pest. He handles the ball pretty well and has some court awareness(wish it would rub off on LB). GG also is a decent upgrade in rebounding at the 2. Now he has started to hit the short 3, this will help open up the lane for the beast. Perhaps Giriceks skills are better utilized in DA's offense. Jerry Sloan is a great coach, but sometimes his players skills are not realized. He may have a problem coaching euros.

I agree Gordan is working out better than I expected. But letting Baron Davis pick his pocket on the break was excruciating. We were screaming at the TV "Behind! Behind!" LOL

Gordon has been much better than I expected. This guy just knows how to play ball and he plays pretty smart. His 3 ball is starting 2 take form and I think he should run the point with the Barbosa line because his ball handling isnt all that bad and he makes good decisions.

One thing to note against GS is they reach in and try to jar the ball loose a lot. I haven't seen this style from other teams but GS has the speed to do that efficiently. I hope next time the Suns run into them they should realize that and be aware of who exactly is around them.

That was LB's fault for not warning him.

Yeah that was a low point. I can deal with GG running plays in the halfcourt, but he isnt fast enough to run the break, especially against the warriors. Give it up and get on the wing, gordon! In all fairness the warriors are the best thieves in the NBA by far, and even Nash gets his pocket picked by those guys. GG is still learning, but I can already tell it will be nice to have another not too small option who can shoot at the '2' for the playoffs. Because GG can impact spacing, I think he will get burn with DA. As much as I like DJ, he just cant get a defender to come out on him. Hopefully, Phil Weber will take care of that problem in the off-season.
