I'm still getting confused sometimes when I see GG out there because I always think he is Steve. Then I saw him on that fast break last night and quickly realized it definitely wasn't Steve out there - lol.
I like his hustle though. He really gives it his all when he is on the court and that is good to see.

I think he's been a fantastic acquisition--he's not going to be a worldbeater, but there are plenty of people here that should be eating crow right about now.

Hill, Skinner, Giricek. This has been a good (off)season for the Suns, even if you don't include the Suns trade.

LOL. You and me both. He had me fooled until B Diddy sneaked up to him.
I'm still not used to seeing someone as 'white' as Steve out there and I have to look at the jerseys sometimes.

GG was incredible against the Kings, he was nailing 3's and jumpers, running the floor and controlling the tempo, playing decent d, aggressive (a few offensive fouls because of that but its better than passive Diaw-like play), and a real spark off the bench. He certainly has better play making decision ability than Diaw, Barbosa, and anyone on the bench. This guy could be a huge addition if he continues to get minutes and shots. Give him the shots I say, he looks like he could make it.

This could be the type of offense GG thrives in.

Giricek could easily have the positive impact on the Suns that TT brought to the team years back. Sometimes it just takes a player getting on the right team. IF Giricek continues to do well, I hope the Suns will make a legitimate effort to keep him unlike TT. That was awful when the Suns let TT go only to sign Banks.

Giricek is better than I expected on both ends of the court. What a relief to have another player D'Antoni will use! Now if Barbs or Bell is having an off game, he has someone to go to - not to mention, GG will save some wear and tear on Raja every game.

About all I could wish for now is for D'A to keep Skinner in the rotation enough to stay as sharp as possible, so he can sit Boris some when he's playing one his really wimpy games. I don't expect this to happen, of course, as Mike has displayed zero interest in Skinner of late.

GG has been much better than I expected.

Must play Skinner more. Hope we resign them both after this year.

Skinner is really active on the court and in my personal opinion plays with more confidence than Diaw. Diaw has more talent and he has the occasional oh wow nice play. I doubt Skinner gets much time in tight games, maybe in blow outs he'd come out.

I like his attitude. With the addition of Shaq and GG the Suns have gone from b*tch to bully.

I heart Gears!

I'm drinking the Gordan kool aid. He is an adequate defender on the perimeter and i love his mid range and long range game.

All you D'Antoni haters. It is his system that alows guys like Giricek to come in and be reborn.

giri has emerged from being a leftover to a double barrel shotgun. do i hear lucky?

i noticed you mentioned kool aid. i know it's a juice coz it's also sold in my home country, but what does it mean when used in that context?

@youjustgotsunsd, what bb signing?

The koolaid reference is like being a homer, or being drunk on good thoughts for the team.

If you're "drinking the koolaid" you are likely ignoring whatever bad is there for the team and only focusing on the good.

thanks. i'll need more clarification though. is it purely a negative or can be both ways? when you're team is doing great it's hard not to be drunk on good thoughts. or sometimes after a loss, there are times you can't get over a certain area of good performances (like hustle and crap). also it can't be helped to become hopeful and explain why we can win this or that...

sorry, i turned you into a help desk...

Haha, no worries. I think the "koolaid" stuff usually has a negative connotation, because it is like being a non-objective homer.

I still don't understand this concept of buying a player out. What is in it for the team doing the buying out other than clearing up a roster spot for a Linton-Johnson-10-day-contract-player? It seems stupid to me.

They way I understand it is that the team just doesn't want the guy around anymore. What is wrong with just benching the guy?

That and the saying spawns from the Jonestown Massacre where several hundred cultists killed themselves by drinking poisoned kool aid.

non-objective homer huh? that kinda hurts :D , i guess i won't be able to use the word afterall :(

@bufalay, there are a number of reasons to buy a player out but none of them makes sense to me as well. if you have a player that has no future economic value whatsoever then why sign him in the first place? maybe it's more like buying time rather than buying out players...

:yeahthat: Also add that they drank the kool aid because a comet was coming to rescue them from this universe or something, right?

Drinking the kool-aid means you believe in something so strongly that you'd accept that drinking poisoned kool aid is the next step in your beliefs.

Examples:

I used to drink the Barbosa koolaid, but now his weaknesses have become so obvious I have put it aside.

Even though DJ is shooting really poor percentages, I am still drinking the Strawberry Kool Aid (bonus points for double entendre!)

Az'sFinest,

There is some truth to that - with a big assist from the training crew who have worked some wonders reviving oft injured players - McDyess, Hill, Shaq and even Nash. The 'system' had its share of failures, too - Rose, George, Marks, Piatkowski and Banks that I can think of offhand. There are also some mixed results - Jim Jackson, KT, James Jones, TT, House - who flourished but eventually sputtered, one way or another.

Giricek may turn out to be the luckiest acquisition of all - his game seems to fit the system to a T and Mike didn't try to turn him into something he wasn't - so far, anyway. Like all the others on the team that can defend worth a dam, he learned it under some other coaches.

To "drink the Kool aid" means to gulp down whatever the team is selling/spinning/doing in spite of any other logic and proof that may say otherwise. Good or bad.

This should help. Number 2 is the best explanation (although the origin is interesting):

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=drink+the+kool-aid

For instance Cardinal fans are known to be really extreme one way or the other- you have Darksiders ("nothing good will happen to this team - they suck") and the Kool-aid drinkers (The team is really trying to win" or "Yeah - another Top Ten pick!)

Can be used anywhere and every where though.

:koolaid: ohhhhhhh yeahhhhhhh!
