Marcin Gortat turned down an extension offer from the Suns in October.
"We just said we're going to wait," Gortat said. "The thing I'm concentrating is coming back to dominating the game and getting back to being a defensive spark." Gortat also called playing with Jermaine O'Neal the "best experience from this year," so he's got that going for him. Related: Jermaine O'Neal

trade him while his value is still high and he's got another year on his deal.

I think O'neal is actually outplaying him. I've been a big Gortat fan but he seems to be playing a little soft this year. I don't know what the heck got into O'neal but he looks like a totally different player this year.

This makes him very tradeable as he won't be signing a multi-year deal to take up years of cap space. Contenders will come a calling but PHX will probably trade him for pennies on the dollar or wait until next year when his value drops and get scrubs back in return, so sad.

He's delusional if he thinks he ever 'dominated the game' - taking advantage of a rookie doesn't count. In the Hornets game both Robin Lopez and Jermaine O'Neal outplayed him rather decisively. He started out the year like a house afire but since the debacle in Utah he's been almost as useless as Blank Look Beasley.

I like Gortat, but if it's like that than trade that ass. What is he thinking, The announcement #2? ESPN will not drop anything to see where he goes, he is not Lebron, and it's not like we will offer him more money, we are the Phx Suns. Trade that ass to a poopy team that actually has valuable draft picks.

I'm not sure what the big deal is? It's the guy's livelihood and it's probably his only chance to get a major contract. I'd think long and hard before I settled, especially with a franchise that hasn't really established a clear direction for the future.

I dont blame him. Unless the Suns were offering him 10-12 million for 4 years (and I'd be stunned if they were) then he would be a fool to sign a deal right now.

i think you're missing the point. people here, myself included, seem to be getting tired of gortat's mouth. the whole i'm not a product of nash, I'm not the #1 scoring option, and now this comes out about him thinking he's a dominate force.

i don't care if he chose to decline the offer and explore options. i'd do the same, I'm sure we'd all look for more money.

its just his choice of words and ego that are becoming annoying. his ego is inflating.

He's a professional athlete. We've been spoiled by Nash and Grant Hill who are most definitely exceptions to the rule. These are young men making ungodly amounts of money and you're upset about his ego?

As a general rule, I'd just as soon all athletes keep quiet. I think we make too much of his quotes but I agree, it does get annoying.

upset is such a strong word. just said he's becoming an annoying sun. and if he thinks he worth that much money, then more power to him.

his play is inconsistent. i could care less what he's making as well as any other person in this world. as i fan this guy is becoming a whiney player with an inflated ego. wouldn't care what he said if he could produce numbers that backed up his mouth.

I'd start looking at trade offers this season. IMO, he is not worth the salary offers he is likely to receive when he becomes a FA.

It only makes sense to wait. I think under the new CBA we're limited to what we can offer in an extension. He's obviously not going to sign for $8.5-9Mil a year. Yet, I don't want to see the Suns pay him $12M a year.

If the Suns were going somewhere I might understand the wait option. However, I don't like the idea of risking letting Gortat walk for nothing. I just don't see him as vital to the Suns future. I like the idea of trading a player a year early than a year late.

Especially with him burning his bridges with his public comments and inconsistent play, which disappoints the hell out of me.

Gortat is an intelligent guy. He probably wants to get as far away from the Suns bumbling Front Office as much as the rest of us. He knows what he is doing.

Thanks for the memories, Marcin. It is just a matter of time. Put in a good word with your new team when the Suns dump Alvin Gentry at the end of the season.

I think Gortat won't sign a contract extension with any team in the West that has to play Utah 4 times a year.

I think he's going to the East simply because of that reason. I can even see him leaving some money on the table to try and get out of playing against the Jazz too much.

I can't tell if you're serious or not. Basing his future on facing a single team four times a year? Come on now.

I respect your position because I know you believed in Gortat as one of the Suns few legitimate big men. Of course, I felt much the same way until recently. The play of Gortat this season is less than I expected, plus his comments... it makes me think the Suns should use him as a trade piece.

Indeed Gentry will likely be the fall guy for this team as Babby said something to the effect recently, he thought the Suns should have a better record. IMO, it's just a matter of time, as it appears Gentry is supposed to make something out nothing nevermind the talent.

Well, you appear to be right about Gortat playing poorly against the Jazz, at least in Salt Lake City. They do seem to make Gortat look less than ordinary. Perhaps you should have used a smilie if you were being sarcastic about the rest.
