If you keep it in the divison, the Cards drafted the best player. Irvin is a major reach and have seen him listed all the way down in rounds 4 and 5. Some teams had him off their board. Think of him as an in shape Vontaze Burfict. I like Jenkins but he didn't fare all that well against the best Big 10 defense(OSU). However, he was hindered by atrocious QB play. Still, he's not a 1st round player. I really like Brockers but his athleticism and motor come into question. If properly motivated though, he'll be a beast.

That said, I rate the picks as folows:
1-Floyd: surest pick but not the best pick for them. Grade B
2-Brockers: highest ceiling. Grade B
3-Jenkins: Could go either way. Grade C+
4-Irvin: Think he'll follow the path of previously esteemed WVU alums like Pacman Jones and Chris Henry. Grade D

I agree, compared to the rest of the division, we had the strongest 1st round pick, although you do have to give the Rams credit for getting Brockers AND the 2nd rounder.

I thought we had the best draft last year also, but both SF and Seattle ended up with pretty nice contributors.

with Jenkins and SF: they already have that player -- his name is Kyle Williams

not sure I get the thinking there

Brockers is a reach for me. Give them a C

I give them an A +. The Rams need more help than any team in the league and they are acquiring picks after the two player that they wanted (Richardson and Blackmon) were gone.

The Rams get a D. They had the#2 pick in a draft filled with dynamic playmakers on a team that lacks playmakers and they end up with a one dimensional DT.

I would be furious if I was a Rams fan today.

They still have faith in Bradford. They gained 2 additional 1st round and 2 additional 2nd round picks. They need quantity over quality at this point.

They traded quality for quantity.

C at best.

Under the old rookie salary structure, quantity was greater than quality, but with the changes most teams are trying to trade up to get guys they believe will be good players.

After the last draft pick is complete one thing will remain true. Our future for 2012 will rest on the shoulders of one of our two QB's.

We'll see how it works out. Fisher has a 3 year plan for STL.

Under the old rookie salary structure, quantity was greater than quality, but with the changes most teams are trying to trade up to get guys they believe will be good players.

I don't think that the salary structure changes much for the team that trades down. For the teams that want to move up and get the guy that they want, sure. They don't have the financial burden of first paying the draft picks and then spending the 10's of millions of dollars on the pick.

Washington overpaid for RGIII. 3 1sts and a 2nd is a crazy amount for one player, for a team that will still struggle to make the playoffs in their division. It's not like Washington is a QB away from the SuperBowl. They arguably have less offensive options than STL.

They added a run stuffing DT while San Fran has added Randy Moss, Mario Manningham and AJ Jenkins and Arizona added Michael Floyd.

St. Louis already has 2 very good defensive ends, IMO, and they have three more picks in the Top 45 in a VERY deep cornerback class. Would anyone be surprised to see them take two or even three corners this evening?

If they end up with Stephen Hill (WR, Georgia Tech), Janoris Jenkins (CB, North Alabama), and Trumaine Johnson (CB, Montana) in the second round, they might not be awesome this year, but they'll be set up for the future.

That's true for teams who think they're on the verge of the playoffs, but if you're a 3-13 team, you're looking to add players to your roster. St. Louis is just talent-poor, and I don't think that ANY of the WRs in this class are game-changers like Fitz, Andre Johnson, or Megatron.

On the first round alone, St. Louis probably didn't get much better. But let's see what happens this evening.

I agree Brockers is a good player, but I look at it and see Claiborne, Barron, Floyd, and Kuechly all as players I would have preferred to have over Brockers + that 2nd round pick. They are still set to really upgrade their team, but with already having a large voume of picks, I would have preferred to go with a more impact player.

Funny - listened to all three sports radio stations this morning - all said the same thing - Rams outsmarted themselves.

They clearly expected Blackmon to be there at #6 - and WR is their biggest need.

And, that there is only two elite WR's in the draft - Blackmon and Floyd - both got picked right before the Rams.

yep -- a meh draft for the Rams

here is the thing about all those picks:

1. Given accumulating the picks was a key part of your strategy -- they will be on the roster

2. A roster full of young players ,even if talented, will be a mess the first year.

I expect another 4 win season from them. After that though............

Watched the war room video of the Rams. After Blackmon and Richardson were gone, there target was Brockers, not Floyd. They considered drafting him at #6 until Dallas offered the pick.

Brockers may have been the target, once the players they wanted were gone. They clearly had no idea that Blackmon woudl be gone, and panicked.

The Rams definitely ran into some bad luck, and got beat to a couple of things. First, Blackmon. Then, with the move to 14. There was high speculation that the Rams were considering Fletcher Cox at 6. They traded down, and with only two picks to go, they had both Cox AND Floyd on the board. Philly jumped up to 12 to take Cox, and we took Floyd when I'm sure they thought we could go Ingram or Reiff.

The trade down ALMOST worked to perfection - but that only counts in horseshoes.

If they pick up Stephen Hill and Janoris Jenkins, I will laugh my a-- off. Hill is WAY overrated - I don't really care if he is fast. Can he be an actual wide receiver and run a pattern and catch a football?

Jeff Fisher to pick PacMan Jones, Part II? I highly doubt it. If he does, that will raise some serious questions in my mind about how great he really is.

Again, watch the war room video. They didn't want Floyd at all.
