Grade Inflation

Too bad GBR doesn't grade "on the curve." Seems like most of the teams got very good grades.

Personally, I have a hard time giving the Cards an "A" just because Boldin was awesome. Pace was awful, King was very good, but Foster didn't work out, Gilbert's gone...

I'd give the draft a B-. No better.

I do, too. But, as things are right now, we had A+ production from Anquan, C production from Bryant Johnson, D+ production from Pace, C+ production from Hayes, and B- production from King. That's a solid draft, but not "excelling". The fact that Pace probably got worse as the season dragged on casts a pall over the whole thing.

I think king and maybe Hayes will be looked at in 3 - 4 years as being great draft picks. Based on the current personnel - I think King might be our best defensive lineman next season...I guess that is not saying much - but he seems to be the one guy who has the motor we want and has a knack for making plays..

while I would have liked to see more out of Pace, I think he was better than D

I would have put him at C+, run defense was very good, pass rush was poor. He might be more of a left defensive end --a strongside guy who can play the run rather than the speed right side guy to pressure the passer.

I gave him the "+" BECAUSE of his run defense and the fact that he pretty much was there almost every down all season long. The fact that he had NO effect on pass rush, which was the reason that he was brought in, is what earns him the "D". I'm sorry, but even as a mid-first round pick, that kind of lack of impact means that you had "below average" performance for your draft status. Heck, KVB earned himself an "incomplete" his rookie season, and has earned a "D-" from me for his career, and adjusted for draft class, KVB and Pace were basically drafted at the same place.
