A coworker and I were talking about this at lunch . . . guys who's name you hear in the NFL draft and thing, "Wow, there's a name straight from central casting." Somebody who in the movies would be a stud . . . a la Jimmy Chitwood, Rick Vaughn, Johnny Utah :D, Shane Falco, etc.

I can't remember all of the names we threw out there but there were a ton. Anybody got any more?

Stony Case

Cade McNown

Karim Abdul-Jabbar (the Dolphins one)

You can't get more all american than Brady Quinn. Honestly if his name was David Chisolm, he'd probably not catch as much slack.

Terry Battle. I think his first name was Terry. Not much a first name, but Battle is good.

I forget his first name, but back in the early 90s there was a guy who played Linebacker for the Bears named "Stonebreaker."

The 2007 All Name and No Name teams are posted on the BRS website. But to save you time and inconvience, here they be:

2007 BRS All Name Team:

QB Josh Swogger, Montana
RB Ramonce Taylor, Texas College
FB Obie Oliuigbo, Michigan
WR Syndric Steptoe, Arizona
TE Cody Boyd, Washington St.
OT Kyle Tatum, Alabama
OG Kasey Studdard, Texas
OC Dan Mozes, West Virginia
OG Tavo Tupola, Utah
OT Tanner Bell, Arizona
WR Smokey Hampton, Troy

DE Baraka Atkins, Miami
DT Turk McBride, Tennessee
DT Jeremy Clark, Alabama
DE Jason Jack, Texas A&M
OLB Karibi Dede, Auburn
MLB Korey Hall, Boise
OLB Sabby Piscatelli (S) Oregon State
CB Usama Young, Kent St.
CB Bo Smith, Weber St.
DSTre Battle, Georgia
DS Bobby Blackshire, Tulsa
Jad Dean, Clemson
Kody Bliss, Auburn

The "Name Challenged" (They have to work harder to overcome this obstacle)

QB Joe Ayoob, California
RB James Prydatko, Fordham
FB Steven Bright, Vanderbilt
WR Joel Filani, Texas Tech
TE Anthony Pudewell, Nevada
OT James Newby, NC State
OG Cory Niblock, FSU
OC Mark Bihl, Michigan
OG Seth Zehr, Iowa St.
OT Stephon Heyer, Maryland
WR Norris Drinkard, UAB

DE Jason Trusnik, Ohio Northern
DT Ray Blagman, UConn (One of ours)
DT Xavier Lawson-Kennedy, Oklahoma St.
DE Joe Cohen, Florida
OLB Dallas Sartz, USC
MLB Brandon Siler, Florida
OLB Steve Dildine, Washington State
CB John Guice, UNLV
CB Anthony Arline, Baylor
DS Jonathon Barsi, Cal Davis
DS Larry Anam, Boston College
K Jon Peattie, Miami
P Adam Podlesh, Maryland

To get full benefit, pretend you're calling the game on the radio and have to pronounce some of these names. My favorite (in addition to Sabby): Karibi Dede, Tavo Tupola. You'll also see a couple of emerging patterns: (1) "Old School" (Turk McBride, Josh Swogger, Smokey Hampton, Korey Hall, Tre Battle), (2) "Multi-Cultural (Usama Young, Tavo Tupola, Obie Oliuigbo and (3) "Fast Names" (Syndric Steptoe, Ramonce Taylor. Missing from this year's crop are the usual group of "Bubbas", "A.J's" and "Jim Bob's."

I've been doing this for nearly 20 years, because I always felt there was a poetry in these names that added glamor and romance to listening to or watching the game.

In the NBA, Corleone Young was named after The Godfather.

I also always liked Anthony Goldwire.

Before the weekend is out, I will post my All Time All Cardinal All Name team. To whet your appetite - it will include such stellar names as Thunder Thornton, EJ Junior and Vai Sickahema.

Heres one- DT Bonnie Sloan was drafted by the Cardinals in 75. What milestone did me do for the NFL and for Handicaped persons? You have to be tough to be named Bonnie for a guy.

There was also a Steve Stonebreaker who played 5 0r 6 years in the NFL during the 60`s for the Saints,Vikings (i think) and Colts. Not for sure about all the teams. The 60`s are kind of hazy.
