Until I see a quote from someone inside the Cards brain trust, I will treat this as pure speculation. Scott would be a nice addition, but I don't see the Cards going after a top-tier FA, when they have their own to re-sign.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves.

It doesnt say we are interested in him, it just makes an assumption that we will be one of the teams "expected to consider making a bid". Its just an assumption based purely on the fact that we tried to get him 3 years ago the first time he was a free agent.

that sounded more like speculation by the article's author more than anything definitive from the Cardinals

I would have even taken a "NFL sources have indicated that the Cardinals are interested....."

but we didnt even get that

Bart Scott is a system linebacker and would not do well with the Cardinals.

Not So Fast...

Rex Ryan coached the kid. Ryan is said to want to bring both Scott and Leonhard over to the Jets in order to both upgrade his defense and to help teach the new system to Jet defensive players.

System?

The Ravens run a 3/4 with a few 4/3 looks... precisely what the Cards are running.

When I said system linebacker, I meant he only put up good numbers since he was on such a good defense.

Whatever team he goes to, if he is forced to be the defensive leader, he will struggle.

Since Peppers and Suggs were tagged and there will likely be no dominant pass-russher at 31 in the draft; If we really want to run straight 3-4, we need this guy and the move of Dansby to the outside.

Good news that management realizes this

Arrggh. Even if we did get Scott, why move Dansby? Isn't Scott an OLB in the 3-4? Isn't Dansby playing great football as an ILB in the 3-4?

Madness, I say...

Bart Scott plays the same position as Dansby. No way the Cards sign him after paying Dansby over $9 million.

Also the only way Dansby plays on the outside is if the Cards are in a 4-3 alignment.

You just don't play guys Dansby's size on the outside in a 3-4. Where's Kerouc9 when I need him. :bang:

Try... He MAY struggle... given that you don't know and can't know...

I just realized how this makes sense! We take in Bart Scott, move Karlos Dansby into Chike Okeafor's spot, cut Chike and give his cap space ($5mil) to Scott.

And cover our eyes as teams run over the left side of our defense because we have an undersized DE in Dockett and an undersized OLB in Dansby lined up on that side. Then they have to bring Wilson up to help stop the runs and bang yet another 64 yard TD pass.

Instead get Okeafor to restructure like Berry did and pick up a young pass rushing OLB in the draft. Use the extra money to hire a tackling coach.

Yeah, I forgot to add in draft Larry English. That way the defense would look like:

DE NT DE
Campbell Watson Dockett

OLB ILB ILB OLB
Dansby Scott Hayes English

That would look great!!!

But, don't look for the Cards to overspend for a high profiled and $$$ guy in Scott. And, don't look for alot of 3/4 looks. As Wiz said this last week they still want to mix the defenses up. I still think Beisel can be an effective inside LB'er and luv the potential of Dansby at OLB despite what others on the board think. Larry English could be devastating on the outside but I still think he goes in the top 20. How about a trade to Detroit @ #20 for Quan?

I like this better:

Dockett Watson Campbell

Okeafor Hayes Dansby English

Laboy takes Chikes spot at his salary. We tend to forget about him, though he was hurt for most of the season.

Do you think LaBoy can hold up for an entire season? He's also on the light side but closer to 3-4 OLB height and weight than Dansby.

My lineup of course was based on Chike restructuring to a more cap friendly number.

Both Laboy and Dansby are listed at 250.

Chike must be on some kind of diet. The Cards 2007 Media guide lists him at 6'5" 265. Now the Cards website lists him at 247.
