2006 Rose Bowl - USC vs Texas. It had everything you'd want in a Nat'l Championship Game. 2 undefeated teams, superstar players (Bush, Leinart, White, Young), 1 vs 2, back and forth game, and a last 4 minute come from behind victory. And of course one of the greatest performances by a single player in college football history.

Of course just my opinion, had USC won, not sure I'd feel the same.

I agree about this game. Talent? Just look at the players who are now in the NFL. Sweed and Charles make it 18 just from Texas . Impact? No bigger stage than the National Championship. History? USC/Texas two of the top sports programs in the country.

Nebraska/OU of 1971 was the second "game of the century" in only a three year span with the 1969 Texas/Arkansas game also being called the "game of the century". A great game sure but not bigger than the UT/USC game.

One of my favorite modern games is purely homerism, the '05 matchup between the Hawks and (LSU) Tigers.

Hawks controlled early, LSU battled back late to take the score. A running Hail Mary had the entire complex (UNI student housing) shaking. Great stuff.

You mention LSU. The game that got me hooked on college football was LSU at Notre Dame. Ended in a 3-3 tie even though 6 offensive starters from each team became NFL starters. I was there, enthralled.

The QBs were Joe Theismann and Bert Jones. The defenses stomped two good running games and beat the bejeepers out of both QB's, who were first and second team all-americans that year.

I had never seen American football before 1969, having grown up overseas. In my dorm room, Dave Casper, a failed OG who Parseghian, out of desperation, converted to TE, lived three doors down the hall.

I played dozens of pickup games against a selfish anal sphincter named Joe (Theisman). Didn't have a clue who he was and did not care.

Bert Jones of LSU and later of the Baltimore Colts was the best QB, at any level, I have ever seen in person. He was too tough for his own good, played injured when he should not have and destroyed his career early.

Had the good fortune to be at the Penn State vs. Miami Fiesta Bowl in 1987. A low-scoring game, but a lot of pressure, like a postseason pitchers' duel or two hot netminders in a Stanley Cup finals game.

That was a great game. The Canes came off the plane wearing fatigues, acted boorish all week, turning everybody here against them, then lost in a huge upset.

The U was more classless then then they are now.

Meanwhile Papa Joe and the Nittany Lions came off the plane wearing navy blazers and ties. Most of the Fiesta Bowl folks were unofficially rooting for Penn State. I went to one of the events during the week and Pete Giftopoulos sat at our table (and was a perfect gentleman). Then he goes and makes the game-clinching interception.

The funniest thing was that I was actually cheering for Miami in that game (for no reason in particular--I was a young ASU fan), but over the years as I've gotten older, I've become happier and happier that Penn State won. They were the good guys.

It has to be the OSU/Miami Nat'l championship game. Miami fans are still crying :violin: about that blatant PI call at the end of the game. Actually, one of the best games i have ever watched was the Texas/USC championship game a couple yeras ago.

The 2005 UT/OSU game in Columbus was a great game.

My favorite UT game where I was in attendance:

The Cotton Bowl prompted a great deal of interest with No. 1 Texas hosting No. 9 Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish were making their first bowl appearance since the "Four Horsemen" beat Stanford 27-10 in the 1925 Rose Bowl. Ara Parseghian's 8-1-1 squad was ending its 44-year self-imposed departure from bowls.

Again, it took some dramatics for a Texas win. UT trailed 17-14 midway through the final period before (James) Street directed the Horns 76 yards for the winning score. Billy Dale's 1-yard run capped the drive and gave UT a 21-17 lead and the 500th win in school history.

That one was a little before my time. The greatest for me, personally, was ASU 19 Nebraska 0. I know it doesn't rank with great games, but as an ASU fan, it was a great game. Recently, that USC vs ND game where Leinart scored a TD was a good one.
Sorry to mention that one, I think you are a ND fan, aren't you, Skkorp?
as an ASU fan "Nineteen to Nuthin" is the best college game ever! ASU dominated from the gate and shut out #1 Nebraska, it doesn't get much better.
