That was mentioned in the original post. But, I think it tops the list. Very memorable. What about the Ride of the Valkryies? Anybody like the smell of napalm in the morn'?

Eye of the Tiger playing when Rocky is training.
(Bada, I'm disappointed I had to jump in here with this one...)
I think you could qualify 'Spinal Tap' because it was a satirical documentary about a rock band. The music became popular because the movie was a cult classic.I think when we start doing Rocky, Full Metal Jacket and Spinal Tap, we’re missing the original thought of this thread. That theme being, music that is not part of the sound track or a musically themed film that is crucial to a particular scene. Yet maybe I’m wrong. Although those songs were part of the background/soundtrack – maybe they were simply to memorable and did indeed play a crucial part in the scene. But Spinal Tap is a musically themed film - so it doesn't count.
Schutd – I can’t believe I forgot about “Do Wah Diddy” in Stripes. That scene is classic.
I really love the seen in Return of the King...when the Riders of Rohan show up at Minas Tirith.
Theoden gives the inspiring speech to his troops, as the music builds in the background...always gives me chills.
Then they charge.
I would say, "Mad World" by Gary Jules in Donnie Darko and also in Donnie Darko; the Tears for Fears song that plays as the kids are walking into their school from the bus. That was a really well done scene.
