Tango, players confidence in Denny? Do you think the defense has confidence in him? We have that side fixed.
Why would the defense have that much confidence in GREEN? He didn't work with them. Who was it that actually "fixed" the defense? Yes, Green has a "secondary" role in the FA and draft personnel that he brought in, but he has never been a defensive coach. He has always relied on a capable DC to handle that for him. Just like Mike Holmgren and Mike Martz, or going the opposite way...a Tony Dungy, who needs a capable OC. I'd be willing to bet, if you pollled the defensive players and could get their honest opinion, any confidence they may have built up was probably more of Pendegast's doing than Green's.
Green ruled this year, just like he always has.....through fear. This is where I see some of those who are intoxicated with Green-ade seem to rely on a little "have it both ways" as Green apologists.
It has been commented on earlier, in other threads, with Nidan confirming from his views of practice, that Green didn't play a hand's on role in anything, especially the defense. So if Green lets his asst's do it, don't you think the players realize who is the one that is making it all work? actually improving their skills, and giving them game plans that work?
I'll indeed give Green kudos for his FA and draft selections. But as I said before, when you look at the actual, practical coaching, he left a ton to be desired.
Now Denny can work on the offensive (very) side of the ball. He didn't wait to get the new OC. When the season is over he can really get to work. Q was not happy in the last game. Whether it was play calling or Josh I don't know. But the play calling could have been the result of the lack of confidence in JM. The new OC will be in DG's ear after player evaluations are completed. Changes are a certainty. DG will fix the offense and when he does where will you be?
I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to figure out that this offense was far less than what a lot of people hoped or expected. There were a lot of reasons for that. It all began with an offensive line situation that was unstable from that day on, heading for training camp when Green unloaded the surprise on Kendall and the Team....and Wylie. For whatever reason Shelton seemed doomed to his doghouse. It remained a circus the entire year. Most often changes, when they were made, were generally last minute surprises. This is good coaching? The Josh move, going into the Carolina game? Boy talk about not having a "feel" as to what your team was really about.....amazing, simply amazing.
To me Green left the team on an island that saturday night with his surprise last minute announcement that King would be starting in place of Josh.
How can you expect a young team to perform the best when you don't have them properly prepared for the game, due to your 11th hour changes?
And Wylie gone after 6 weeks, generally conceded to be because of "philosophical differences". Will Rowan really be "in Denny's ear"....and what about the seemingly philosophical differences that have already been expressed in Rowan and Green's basic philosophy in handling players?
Could this turn out to be the Wylie situation "all over again"?
I sincerely hope not. I still think that its possible that Woods not only may have not lived up to the expectations placed on him, but that he was also a convenient scapegoat for Green to do, once again as history has shown he so often does...deflect any criticism away from himself. And the quick action, in that respect, can just add to the image that Green is "fixing the problem".
But remember.....movement is not always the same as accomplishment. Anyone that's ever been in the army should understand that full well.
You have painted yourself into a corner. Are you a Cardinals fan that hopes we are competitive or a DG hater that won't post on this board after a good game?
???? What's this "I won't post here after a good game" stuff? That is fiction that originates from one place only...Cheesy....nothing more....and is in fact complete BS.
I'm not a complete Green hater. I haven't painted myself into any corner. I just call them as "I" see them, which seems to offend some people who are convinced that Green borders on divine and his moves and actions should not be questioned. I hated the years Buddy Ryan was here, it broke my Cardinal heart, but I still remained loyal to "the team" and always hoped for the best every sunday when they took the field. I have much the same feeling with Green so far. I don't think he's as bad as Ryan, (so far anyway), but I also feel under him, you can not say this team fits the army's jingo.."Be all that you can be", and had not been for some of his coaching mistakes, really should have done better than it did.
I've enjoyed many of your posts and hope you are still here next season. But the Cardinals have been bad for so long that you can't fix everything in 1 year.Give him credit for the draft and FA pickups. The man knows talent. Why doubt that he can't do the same thing for the offense? We play in a bad devision. Almost making the playoffs with a losing record. You have to know that denny took note of that
I'll be here, (at least a Cardinal fan, can't say that for sure about the board, but those are two separate things).
It's been over a year now since Green was hired. I said from the beginning I had some "reservations", and that my mantra in regard to the situation was "We'll see"....well a lot of those "reservations still exist, and in fact more than a few have been proven out. I'm still in the same place ...."We'll see".
