49ers | Green scheduled to visit
Thu, 05 Mar 2009 11:30:53 -0800

Jim Wyatt, of The Tennessean, reports the San Francisco 49ers are scheduled to meet with unrestricted free-agent CB Eric Green (Cardinals) Friday, March 6.

The 49ers must really be impressed with us. They keep trying to sign all our free agents.:D

If they sign him I hope he starts, but as a nickleback I think he's pretty good.

What gives you that impression?
I don't think he matches up well to most starting WRs in the league, but I think he's good enough to be on the field in certain situations.

The league isn't filled with Champ Baileys. Do you really think there are about 70 better CBs in the league then Green? If I had to rank them all, I'd suspect that's about where he'd come out on the list...70-80 range (I haven't sat down to do that obviously, but here's how I came to it: 32 teams x 2 starters = 64, and certainly there are some better nickles then him so I just rounded it out).

DOOOOOOOO IT. DO IT DO IT. Breaston would have a 200 yard game every time he goes up against him.

Isn't Ralph Brown better? It seems there would be 70 better than Ralph Brown. I dunno.

Yes, please please please (we need a praying smiling face). I'd absolutely love to face Green twice a year.

If Singletary signs a player that quits on plays and/or appears to get injured after getting beat, he is more of fraud than I thought.

I still think that if you kan get Green motivated and if you can get him to toughen up, he'll be a very decent corner in this league. It's not gonna be here though, that ship has sailed.

Yeah, his first couple years weren't bad. He beat our David Macklin and seemed to be a fairly-reliable player. I don't know what happened this last year, if he was just out of shape or wasn't mentally in the game, but he sure didn't last long.

I'm sure Green has the talent, I'm assuming it's probably more about will with him.

Sorry but Green was never any good. He wa solid in spots while trying to make the starting lineup but once he did make it he was sen for what he was, a bad cover CB. Profootballprospectus who has a stat of how many times a CB was thrown on versus how many times the WR caught the ball. Something like a completion percentage against a CB. out of the 64 starting CB's in 2007 Green was in the bottom five and Hood was in the top 5. Hood was also in the bottom five of TD's given up and big plays given up. That didnt change this season the first half of the year.

Green was always a bad starting CB and never reliable.

As for this season going from #2 to #5 on the depth chart. He was without a doubt in shape, its one of ther easons why he cut his dreads so he could be lighter. His dreads weight in at 2-3 pounds he said. His fall that far down came because the coaches were finally done with him giving up big plays and TD's, and he did not take his demotion well at all. Remember that last couple of games before he was demoted every time he gave up a big play or TD he would flail his arms around and stomp his feet like a child. That was the end of that and the rest was history.

I have been saying since day one the guy stunk and he still stinks. Not ball skills, mental lapses, attitude of a child, and worst of all as a CB you need to forget the last play and not let it effect you on the next one, Green did the opposite, WR's would get in his head and never get out.

End of my Green rant, Glad we are finally done with him.

If he couldn't be motivated in a contract year, when would he be motivated?

The CB stat you are speaking of, to be more specific, Green was tied for last with a safety and rookie corner.

I was just reading the pick-by-pick analysis of the 2008 NFL Draft. Under the selection of DRC it mentioned how Eric Green is an ABOVE-AVERAGE #2 corner. Oh how I wish that were true.

I really agree with the ball skills part. That was what frustrated me most was to see him in position and not know where the ball was. It caused lot's of PI penaltys, lots of caught balls, and no interceptions. The guy just couldn't get his head around and locate the ball.

DRC seemed to pick this part up quickly. Somehow when he sees those receivers eyes get wide he knows it's coming. Green just never picked it up.
