Greenville’s Lady Lions finished their softball game on a stormy Tuesday night but the Greenville Lions’ baseball game was postponed.
The Lady Lions just did finish before lightning called to a halt play on the other side of the high school: John Mason Field. The Lions’ District 9-5A baseball game with Sherman was called in the scoreless first inning.
That game, which started at 7:35 p.m., was suspended at 7:52 p.m. Coaches, players, umpires and fans waited out the delay before the game was officially called off at 8:36 p.m.
McKinney North outscored the Lady Lions 14-3 in a game at Monty Stratton Field that was called after six innings due to the 10-run rule.
McKinney North scored in every inning as the Lady Bulldogs rebounded from a 24-0 loss to defending state champion and No. 1 nationally-ranked Melissa.
Sarah Njoroge, Kelsey Sommers, Camille Soriano and Olivia Llamas all pounded two hits for the winners. Soriano scored four runs and Kaitlyn Wilson scored three runs.
Kenzie Scarbrough and Carli Scarbrough both pounded two hits to lead the Lady Lions. Kenzie scored a run and Carli drove in a run.
Also with hits for the Lady Lions were Merci Tippit, Kynna Rhoden and Ashlee Robison.
Robison made a running catch in right-centerfield, diving to make the catch. On the previous play she threw out a runner at home from centerfield.
The Lady Lions, who are still looking for their first district win at 0-6, are to play at Melissa on Friday. Melissa is 20-0 for the season and 6-0 in district play including a 15-0 win over Greenville on March 4. The Lady Cardinals have outscored their district opponents 94-0.
The game was originally scheduled for Greenville but moved to Melissa because of wet conditions.
