After losing 2-0 to Melissa in the first game of the two-game District 9-5A baseball series, the Greenville Lions had hopes of winning the rematch.
Their hopes looked promising when they jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning but Melissa rallied for a 20-5 victory as the Lions dropped to 9-8 for the season and 0-2 in district play.
Melissa improved to 10-2-1 and 2-0.
The Lions are to open another two-game 9-5A season at home at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday against Walnut Grove before heading to Prosper for game two on Friday night against Walnut Grove.
Melissa put Friday’s game away with a 10-run seventh inning. Up until that point the Lions were still in the ballpark at 10-5.
The Lions struggled with their control on the mound, walking 14 and also gave up two errors.
Antonio D’Amore drove in five runs to lead the victors and Bo Jones drove in four.
Ethan Musil doubled and tripled to lead the Lions at the plate and Jamorian Hamilton doubled and singled. Musil drove in two runs and Hamilton scored two runs.
Walnut Grove opened district play by beating Denison 12-2 and 19-7 in two games.
