Keith Law mentioning CHC were scouting Greinke pretty heavily this spring.

The D-backs have a good starting rotation 1-5, good relievers, line drive hitters throughout the lineup and subs who, although their numbers don't show it, have been pretty solid. And that's with a disappointing performance (until tonight) on the road.

I see no reason to trade our ace starter. Why would the D-backs not want an All Star calibre pitcher at the top of the rotation to go with Goldy as an All Star cabler batter? Hey, we're pretty good. Nah, let's become mediocre. I don't buy it.

ZG's contract isn't even bad, that's how much aces cost. He's pitching like one. We're in the playoff hunt, we're winning. Good lord the ZG hate in AZ is just mind boggling.

Let's trade Randy Johnson back then to get the Toledo Mud Hens' top prospect. Good Plan for a playoff team. Never understood the urgency to blow up the team every time you have one down season. This team was already blown up. These are almost all very young guys. We were expecting a playoff caliber team last year. They messed the bed, but this year they are showing their true talent. Why dump your best players to start over yet again? It's time to get back to the playoffs. (Remember those?)

The next six weeks of our schedule are against almost universally crummy teams. We can go on a big run right now and get way up over .500. We'll be at 88 wins if we just play .500 ball the rest of the season - seven games over right now.

I don't dislike Greinke and I don't begrudge him for getting paid. However, he takes up 35% of the team's current payroll and it doesn't look like the team is looking to increase their overall pay in the coming years. He's signed through 2021 and I do think the front office needs to take a hard look at determining if the next three years of paying $34 million per year are worth a wild card run this season. I won't be upset if they keep him and go for playoffs the next two years but i also won't be upset if they explore options to trade him for spects and roster flexibility while his value is probably as high as it will be.

If the Dbacks can find a taker, they should unload his fat contract IMMEDIATELY. He's making $32m this year, and is owed a boatload more cash for what, another 4 years? To play every 5th day. He earns 4x what Goldy is making, and he plays every day. That contract will haunt the Dbacks for years to come if they don't get out from under it. He'd have to win 25+ games every season to be remotely worth that kind of coin, and that ain't happening.

If they do manage to unload him, immediately tear up Goldy's puny contract and re-up him at market rates for a longer period, and lock him down as a Dback. Look at doing something similar for Jake Lamb.

Yes, it's hard to find an ace. But there's NFW that Greinke is not going to decline over the next few years, or even possibly break down completely. And I'd argue he's not worth $32m today, much less 3-4 years from now. MOVE HIM!

I would dump Goldy for another Greinke. You win titles with pitching. Lot's of good hitters not a lot of good pitchers.

The D'backs are looking much more like the team they thought they had when the signed Greinke. The only time they should consider trading him is if he was doing well but the rest of the team was awful. You don't trade an ace if you're in contention, you just don't.

ARZ couldn't get what they want for Greinke anyways. Teams would either offer cash or prospects and if by chance there is a club willing to offer both, the prospects would probably be lower tier guys who are no where near the big leagues.

That's a good find. I hope the D-backs start spending more on the payroll but I'm not going to hold my breath.
