The 2025 offseason will be a very important one for the North Carolina Tar Heels as they need to address some key questions to get the program back on the right track. This offseason, like others, will be very active in terms of the transfer portal and next year's roster will look a lot different.
With the transfer portal already open following the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament, there have been players entering and seeking their new homes. And one of those players should draw the attention of North Carolina.
Virginia guard Isaac McKneely entered his name into the transfer portal on Monday and he could be the solution to a big problem that North Carolina has.
McKneely spent the past three seasons at Virginia and he's coming off a 2024-25 campaign where he averaged 14.7 points per game and shot 42% from the three-point line. And three-point shooting was a big disappointment for the Tar Heels last season. The Tar Heels shot 35.6% from the three-point line as a team last season, ranking 80th.
Now, McKneely just entered the portal and did so with a 'do not contact' tag which means it usually goes through the agents. The 6-foot-4 guard did have interest from UNC before he committed to Virginia but he never received an offer from the Tar Heels.
UNC now has the chance to pursue him and solve a big issue as McKneely could provide some valuable scoring for the lineup next season.
