Kolb would be the antithesis of what Arians describes as his kind of QB. He doesn't have the big arm to go deep, is inaccurate at times and makes bonehead plays too often. Skelton, Lindley and Hoyer are not even capable backups IMO. Hoyer was on the street in week 14 for a reason for those who think he showed any promise in his brief stint last season.

I don't think there is a salvageable QB on the roster, Hoyer included, to start next season. If BA gets a QB in the draft and starts him then I am all for it. I have seen enough of the bad we had last season. Bring in a vet backup and go for it.

Got to have a complete change of the QB core next season. New coach, new system, new QBs.

I think they bring a stop gap vet. Matt Moore?

I think it's entirely possible that they will draft two rookie QB's this year.

Great writeup, again, Mitch. I can't see us getting big Ben, then then I've been wrong before. I'm leaning towards the Tyler Wilson pick. We'll see.

I like your 3 choices Mitch. Now i am putting you on the spot.................pick one and would you pick Wilson in RD 1 if he does extremely well at Senior Bowl practices and game?
Do you feel confident that Glennon and Bray will be around RD 2?

Early QB Prediction:

Geno Smith---top 3 pick---Eagles (from Jax) @ #2.

Tyler Wilson---top 10---Cardinals @ #7.

Mike Glennon---top 10---Jets @ #8.

Matt Barkley---top 20---Cowboys @ #18.

Tyler Bray---top 32.

Ryan Nassib---top 35.

Zac Dysert---top 40.

Landry Jones---top 75.

I would prefer we keep what we have and draft QBs and RBs each and every year until these are no longer areas of concern. Based on how the game is played today we need to have depth in both these areas as injuries are far to common to just focus on any one person lasting the season without injury.

Not a bad idea, although I am not real sold on Matt Moore. But, I think he is better than what is here right now.

Ben Roethlisberger (PIT)---while the Rooneys appear to be content with Big Ben, they might be tempted to go in a different direction if there's a young QB they like near the top of this draft. The #7 pick could be very intriguing for them, as they could also package a deal to move up to the top of the draft, if let's say they are enamored with Geno Smith. Price? The #7 pick this year, the 2nd round pick in 2014 and the 3rd round pick in 2015.

this is completely insane and why I can never take anything you say remotely seriously. The Steelers... are going to give up a potential HOF QB for a high pick in what everyone acknowledges is a QB deficient draft? Seriously... how the hell can anyone even begin to convince themselves this is even a remote possibility?

Are you really predicting that 4 QB's will go in the top 18 picks?

If so, I disagree. I think we might not have a QB picked in the top 15 to 20 this year.

Did you ever think the Colts would move on from Peyton Manning?

BR has given the Rooneys cause for concern on number of different levels---

Geno Smith played right in Pitt's backyard. If the Steelers felt that they would like to do what SF did and go with a younger QB---who knows?

Having the #7 and #17 picks would give the Steelers bargaining power and the immediate wherewithal to make a move for Geno Smith.

If so, I disagree. I think we might not have a QB picked in the top 15 to 20 this year.

What makes it feasible is the way rookie QBs have stormed the NFL in recent years---everyone is looking for their next QBOF, and while it doesn't appear right now that this year's QB class is as talented as last year's, what will give teams pause is that players like Andy Dalton and Russell Wilson have proven that they can come right in, start and even lead their team to the playoffs as rookies.

Which means there are plenty of teams out there kicking themselves for not drafting Dalton or Wilson earlier...like the Cardinals for one.

I don't think teams will want to risk that the QB they like will make it into the second and third rounds---there is such a premium on the position---

NFL GMs and HCs could care less about the pundits and their projections...

They moved on from Peyton Manning only after they secured the best QB prospect since Peyton Manning. Smith is no Luck, as is evident by the possibility of him even being there at #7.

I would say Mike Glennon is the closest thing to what Arians will want from the rookie class coming. Add in that he is from NC State, Steve Keim's alma mater.
Watched his dropbacks against UNC and his supporting cast is pathetic. They had 8 drops, one of which was intercepted, the other interception was a dumb lack of play on the ball by the WR and his OLine/backs couldn't pass block for crap. Even after all of that he still had a really nice game with about a handful of very impressive throws.

I would like to see more games and all of the pre-draft stuff first, but I can see why a lot of people could see him jumping into the top 10.

With the 7th and the 17th picks---a move to the top 2 picks in the draft is very possible, even likely based on the past couple of years.

QB:

Profile: Must be able to drive the ball deep and with air-time and accuracy. Must be sturdy in the pocket---some mobility helps.

Kolb---can't see him in Arians' picture
Skelton---has the arm and pocket strength, can Arians fix his accuracy issues?
Lindley---will have to fight for the #3 job
Hoyer---could well be in the mix, although BA would probably want a stronger arm

FA interest?

Drew Stanton (IND)---Arians saw him every day up close this year, did he like what he saw? Luck got all the snaps, so there's no game film on him, save the pre-season.

Alex Smith (SF)---not sure he fits the BA profile---

Matt Moore (MIA)---could garner some interest---especially if Todd Bowles endorses him.

Matt Flynn (SEA)---see Brian Hoyer

Draft?

Geno Smith (WVU)---fits the profile
Mike Glennon (NCSt.)---fits the profile
Tyler Wilson (ARK)---fits the profile
Tyler Bray (TEN)---fits the profile for arm-strength
Zac Dysert (OHIO)---fits the profile

Trade?

Ben Roethlisberger (PIT)---while the Rooneys appear to be content with Big Ben, they might be tempted to go in a different direction if there's a young QB they like near the top of this draft. The #7 pick could be very intriguing for them, as they could also package a deal to move up to the top of the draft, if let's say they are enamored with Geno Smith. Price? The #7 pick this year, the 2nd round pick in 2014 and the 3rd round pick in 2015.

Ryan Mallett (NE)---a high draft pick in this year's or the 2014 draft could do it...especially if the Pats can pick up Matt Cassell to be Brady's backup. Brady is talking 3-4 more years, which means Mallett would be long gone in FA---and thus, the way the Pats think, if you can get something good for him now, do it. Price? #38 (Rd. 2) pick this year and a 3rd or 4th in 2014?

My Guess?

I think BA would do whatever he could to get Big Ben in Arizona. It might not be possible---but there's no harm in asking. I think he could talk Michael Bidwill, Steve Keim and Jason Licht into trading for him and giving up a lot to get him.

Arians wants to win now. He's 60 years old and living hard each day, as he puts it.

If BA thinks Mallett is better than any QB he could take at #7 or #38, then I could see him swinging a deal with the Pats.

But the one guy I think BA might become enamored with is Tyler Wilson---because Wilson has the kind of leadership and competitive temperament that BA likes.

Obviously, BA is not afraid to go with a rookie, if the rookie fits the profile.

So my guess is one of those three.

i can't see BA settling for mediocrity---he's going to make a splash at the QB position.

Great post. The Drew Stanton name is interesting. As for Ben, I thought about him too and then looked up his contract and I am not sure how it works with so much money left with still a few year left. Don't the bonuses accelerate for Pittsburgh?

2014 $3.795M
2015 $3.795M

If a trade for a QB doesn't happen, Garth---the #7 pick will be for a QB---BA isn't going to wait around. Geno Smith, Tyler Wilson or Mike Glennon at #7.

I can't see Nassib going at #7---but I do see the Bills and Doug Marrone making a trade to move up into the the late first or early 2nd round to draft him.

agreed
