Here are some players that are being hyped, way over-hyped in my mind, that i hope the Cards avoid on draft day.
1-Pac man Jones- i hate guys that all of a sudden become the "chic" pick. He really didn't do anything to warrant a top 10 pick.He had some nice games towards the end of last year. He's good but not top 10 good.
2-JJ Arrington- i just don't think he' have a major impact.I could be wrong but i'm just not that impressed by him.I think he's a MAJOR reach at 44.Now maybe in the 3rd round i could see taking a chance on him but in the first 2 rounds we need as sure as thing as we can get.
3-Matt Jones- major, major project. We don't need to be drafting this type of player.Cards are not in position to take a boom/bust type player.
4-David Baas- i actually wouldn't hate drafting him because he was a productive college player and Michigan linemen usually do pretty well in the NFL. But,at 44 we could get a better prospect and probably get a guy to similar to Baas later on in the draft.
5-Alex Smith-qb has alot of question marks to be using the 8th pick on. He may turn out to be Chad Pennington or also could be a Tim Couch.I don't think he fits Green's type of QB.
others are Pollack,Roth,Ware-DE's also get overrated because they are hard to find.

Now some guys who i think aren't being rated highly enough and would love to see the Cards take a long look at.
1-Carlos Rogers-most people have him projected later than Rolle and JOnes. I think he is on par,and maybe a bit better, with Rolle and is much better than Pacman.
2-Elton Brown-i've made some posts earlier about him.I think he's the steal of the draft if the Cards get him at 44.He could be Denny's next Randall McDaniel.
3-Ben Wilkerson-he's a C but he's the kind of leader that evry OL needs and he was a top prospect before he blew out his knee.Maybe he could play OG. He was very dominant in college.
4-Maurice Clarett- i know i'll be called a homer but you don't see me touting any other Buckeyes. In fact stay away from all other than Dustin Fox.I would even take Clarett in round 4.You make not like his personality but the guy WILL be one of the top backs to come out of this draft. He's every bit as talented as Cedric Benson.
5-Marlin Jackson-his stock actually seems to be rising up again. This guy can play with anybody in this draft. He played FS as a junior but i think he will be a very good CB in the NFL.
others-Earnest Shazor, Morrison from SDST,Parrish/Thorpe

You kill me with the homerism. :D

I have a gambling problem and I need to make a bet on this.

Okay you and I both suffer from "Homer" problems. I am taken aback by your calling Matt Roth overrated (the kid's a mean mean bastard which is good), he's got good physical talent. I also disagree with your idea of Maurice Clarrett being an impact player, he's a "me" guy to the nth degree and would be more of a headache than worth for what he may or may not bring to the game (and he's a quitter).

As far as the rest of your "avoiding" list, I agree. I think Pac-Man may be a chic pick, as well as some of the others you mentioned.

i couldn't agree more on pac man i think he's a workout warrior, i would much rather have rogers of the top three corners (rolle first though). i also think elton brown would be a steal at #44 but i have to disagree on jj arrington, busting on to the scene with over 2,000 yard in the pac-10 and also leading the nation in ypc should mean something even if it was only one year.

I don't get this. Where does the "all of a sudden" come from? He's been a predicted Top 10 selection and Top 2 at his position since January. Adam Jones was at #5 on Mel Kiper's Top 20 Juniors List in December (Below Matt Leinart, D'Brickshaw Ferguson, DeAngelo Williams, and Ahmed Brooks). When he declared for the Draft in January, he debuted at #13.

Let me clarify something.I don't think Clarett will be an impact player this year but in about 2-3 years he will be. I do think Roth is overrated. I've seen him projected in the 20's.He's too much in the KVB and Thomas Burke for my liking. With Pac man, what i meant is that he burst onto the scene late in the year. I just don't trust those guys as much as someone like Rolle who has done it for years at a high level program.

Once again I agree with your sentiments on Rolle and Jones, I also believe that Rolle is more NFL ready coming from a league farming school like the 'canes have. Despite Rolles lack of traditional coverage play his senior year I believe it highlights his athleticism and ability to adapt, not his ineptitude at wide reciever coverage. For a testamate to that check his game tape from his years previous to that of his senior one.
... and on Roth... I can certainly see why he may draw comparisions to guys like KVB and Burke just because he plays with his "motor" always on or running or whatever the euphamisim is, Roth has been a producer since his Freshman year, a true 4 year starter, and what I hope to be a very good player in the league.
I am not saying we draft the guy, I think we have a good stock of DE's and I'm not sure how he'd make the transition to LB (even though that was his high school position), I am merely getting behind a guy I watched play for 4 years, and believe could make an impact, much in the same way you belive Clarrett can.

The Big Ten rocks though, doesn't it?

If there's a late round RB we should be thinking about, his name is Darren Sproles, not Clarett. I was born and raised in Columbus. I bleed scarlet and gray, but Clarett is persona non grata in my book. That guy is poison. I know Dennis Green likes the "gamble on greatness" guys with character issues, but in that department Clarett is more Demetrius Underwood than Randy Moss.

Also, I disagree on Alex Smith. My top three on the wish list at #8 are 1) Derrick Johnson, 2) Alex Smith and 3) Antrell Rolle. We can't keep passing on QBs forever. Smith doesn't have the measurables of Rogers, but he's a winner and a future pro bowler in the NFL.

Other than that, I agree with most of the list. I'm not crazy about Arrington or Pac Man Jones. As far as Matt Jones goes, I always get nervous about guys that are that raw.

I really like Carlos Rogers, but short of a trade down, its a non-issue for the Cards. Too early to take him at #8 and he'll be long gone at #44.

I want nothing, and I mean NOTHING, to do with Clarrett. I have huge issues with a guy who walks out of the combine because he didn't run fast enough. Who the heck WALKS OUT of a workout?! That showed me what type of character he has and frankly we don't need that crap here in the Valley.

Runners rarely take 2-3 years to develop. You can either run or you cannot. That is one position that probably takes the least amount of time to develop. You do not teach reaction, strength, speed, vision, courage. Your mama and papa gave you these.

The first year he will have to get back into the football routine.By year 2 he should ready to go.But you're right most guys can either run or they can't. However alot of them need work on blocking schemes and so forth and, therefore, take a bit longer to develope.
