Plus, there are a lot of veterans in the final year of their contracts who could be attractive to teams looking to max out on cap room for next summer. Each of these guys could come off a team's cap after next season (2004-05 salary listed in parentheses).

Alan Henderson, Hawks ($8.273 million)

Michael Stewart, Celtics ($4.8M)

Antoine Walker, Mavericks ($14.625M)

Elden Campbell, Pistons ($4.4M)

Bo Outlaw, Grizzlies ($6.585M)

Kerry Kittles, Nets ($10.266M)

Othella Harrington, Knicks ($3.15M)

Andrew DeClercq, Magic ($2.547M)

Glenn Robinson, Sixers ($12.071M)

Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Blazers ($14.625M)

Dale Davis, Blazers ($10.068M)

Damon Stoudamire, Blazers ($12.5M)

Vitaly Potapenko, Sonics ($6.191M)

Donyell Marshall, Raptors ($5.328M)

Larry Hughes, Wizards ($5.455M)

There are some interesting guys that could help us and free up cap space. If we could package a team taking Eisley, too, we could be under the cap again the following season.

I would kill to see Bo Outlaw back in a Suns uniform.

He brought so much energy to the team.

Eisley, Joe Johnson, and Bulls Pick for Bo Outlaw and Paul Gasol?

It'd fill our center need, and we'd unload Eisley.

On a board running rampant with bad trades, that one might just be the worst! :D

LOL, it's a new theme:

Eisley, Johnson, and CHI pick

for

(insert superstar here)

I think the Pacers might do it for Jermaine O'Neal, how about it?

I've always liked Donyell Marshall's game. He's probably one of the few players for whom I'd be willing to give up Marion, even though Marion is younger. Marshall's taller and has more of a forward type game -- not going to spend a lot of time on the wing. I think Donyell would be a very good fit here.

That said, Toronto's not going to give him up, at least not while they're still trying to convince Vince Carter they're commited to winning.

If the Suns could somehow remove Dale Davis from Portland, he would be better than any of the available players in free agency. Definately could improve the defense and rebounding. I think Amare would be VERY happy, too, playing next to someone who can share the banging load.

Once again, though, we're talking about a team who has no interest in trading that player. The Blazers are owned by Paul Allen, who has more money than any other owner in the league. Maybe more money than everyone else combined. Dale Davis has immense value to the Blazers and they can afford him and his $10 million.

Hopefully, that is the not the entire FA list for next summer. On that list, Donyell Marshall is my favorite.

There not even free agents. Just guys in the last year of their contracts. You can trade for them to build some cap space the following season. Probably will have to give up a pick, or someone good to do it. Just throwing out the trade topic. :D

How many if any of these guys do you think will resign for more than they make now?

It's about them NOT resigning. It's about their cap space going away after the upcoming season and the Suns having cap space again the next season! :D Plus, actually getting a guy that could help us this year. ;)

I can't see them doing it. They won't even trade Jermaine for Shaq....

No, it's not Gasol is a great young center. I'd love to see him here. We unload Eisley, and then we trade away JJ who I'm not HUGE on.

Quick question, where are these numbers coming from? They differ widely from the HoopsHype and I'm looking for another source of per year numbers.

There are several considerations when looking at trading Eisely for a player with only one year on his contract:

1. Is this a player worth "renting" for a year? There are no assurances that the guy you take will be willing re-sign. Often these guys are being moved just because their former team is not prepared to re-sign them for the amount of the money they want.

2. Is the player really likely to be available? Guys that are relatively young starters are not really available no matter what their status. A backup with a big contract is a much better target.

3. Can the team actually use Eisley? We have been pretty unimpressed with Eisley since he came, but he is a veteran point guard and there are teams that have a need for someone. If the other teams has depth at PG, they will not do it for anyone who would be of any value to the Suns.

4. What else is included in the deal? It is one thing to use the Chicago pick to clear cap space this summer but quite another to do it for next summer. By next summer Eisley will be vastly easier to move, so overpaying for future cap space is not very interesting unless you really want the player being targeted.

5. Does the deal make sense for the other team? It is rare that teams will give up guys with one year left on their contracts for someone they don't need. This means that the incentives have to be pretty high ( trade exemption and draft picks) to get even serious consideration.

I would like to see Outlaw return but killing is out of the question. I would need a little better cause than that. :D

donyell for marion is ridiculous. marion is worth 3 donyells, and i'm not a huge fan of marion's.

we could never pry gasol from memphis for jj and a pick. nahgonnahappen.

also, gasol is a pf. he is NOT a center.

I think Suns management is just being patient they know they are not going to be competing for the championship this upcoming season and have an extremely young team that they would like to get some playoff experience so that next year when Amare is ready for superstar status they are ready to compete for the championship for many years to come... I think the philosophy is a good one and one that will work. Patience... it is a virtue...

Exactly my thought.

One of the most important decisions the franchise needs to make is to keep the nucleus of JJ, Matrix, and Amare. We need to keep these three together.

Not if we do a deal with Portland that invloves Marion and Ratliff as the center pieces. I would not want to do this if Q stays with the Clips.

I think a deal with Portland can be done if they do not match any offer to Darius Miles.

With the signing of Nash, the new core of the team is Nash, JJ, Amare. To me Marion and JJ styles are too similar. Even if we do not get to keep Q I think the Blazers are a good trading partner and I would consider a deal of

Marion, Voskuhl and Vujanic plus cap space
for
Ratliff and SAR.

I think SAR adds a consistent mid range jumper and a post up game that could be valuable when Amare is on the bench. It was rumored that we tried to get these guys last year from Atlanta, I would think that we still would have interest in them. We would most likely have their Bird rights next summer as well.

If the Suns are going to do a deal it will be for Cap space not talent, unless it is cheap.

You really think Portland's going to trade SAR and Ratliff for Marion and garbage? Why the hell would Portland make that deal? I mean Marion is a garbage man - in the vein of Ceballos on offense and a good rebounder - but that alone doesn't compare to both the rebounding and shot-blocking that Ratliff provides and the scoring and ability to create one's own shot with SAR.

I mean in essence that's what you're saying because Little Jake has zero value in this league as far as trades go and I don' believe Vujanic does either.

Don't get me wrong if they made that deal we would be instant contenders - but you're talking fantasy man.
