Will Smith Comes Tonight
Source: Variety
February 17, 2005

Columbia Pictures is negotiating to finance Tonight, He Comes as a vehicle for the studio's Hitch star Will Smith, reports Variety.

Jonathan Mostow will direct the story of a superhero who crash-lands in Sheepshead Bay, N.Y., and causes chaos as he romances a local housewife in an attempt to revitalize himself.

Written six years ago by Vincent Ngo, Tonight, He Comes has long been considered one of the better unmade scripts in town, says the trade. Michael Mann, who at one time was signed to direct, will produce the film with Akiva Goldsman.

Vince Gilligan (The X-Files) has already done a rewrite and will script another draft under Mostow's supervision once the Columbia deal is finalized. A holiday 2006 release is being eyed.

Mostow is developing several projects, including an untitled Paramount thriller he wrote, as well as Terminator 4.

Hey, cheese - you know anything about this one? I know you are the resident script-master. :D

Is Will Smith gonna be in this?

All that fancy smancy hollywood talk (i.e transcript, vehicle) has me confused if he will be in it or not.

Will Smith's Superhero Effort
Thursday February 17, 2005

The Fresh Prince is preparing to don a superhero cape.

Fresh off the record-breaking opening of Hitch, Will Smith has signed on for Tonight He Comes, a drama about a down-and-out superhero who drinks, smokes and has one-night stands to assuage his general discontentment.

After he is drawn to a married woman, the disillusioned hero develops a new outlook on life.

Jonathan Mostow (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines) is set to direct the film and Akiva Goldsman and Michael Mann will produce.

Former X-Files writer and executive producer Vince Gilligan penned the current incarnation of the script; the original was written by Vincent Ngo.

Tonight has long been on film executives' list of best unproduced films, but due to its dark undertones, has reportedly been difficult to get off the ground.

However, given Smith's recent batting average, the film stands a good chance of being a box office hit.

Per BoxOfficeMojo.com, the Men in Black star has a weekend opening average of $34.2 million--more than any other actor.

Since Smith has proven adept at inspiring the movie-going public to part with their hard-earned dollars, he is now channeling his star power into boosting knowledge of the AIDS virus.

The actor will host Nelson Mandela's AIDS awareness concert on Mar. 16 in South Africa, which will feature performances by Annie Lennox, India.Arie and Queen's Brian May and Roger Taylor with Bad Company's Paul Rodgers on vocals.

The event is focused on highlighting the plight of South African women and girls who are more than six times more likely than men to become infected with the virus, Mandela said Thursday.

"We do not treat our women with enough dignity and respect," Mandela said. "We must mobilize to act, and act soon, before it is too late."

read the production script a while back. set your expectations to somewhat low. the script never settled on what tone it wanted to strike and was all over the place. JMO.

Love it when producers agree they need a romanction dramedy to appease all audiences. It works, though. There's an Austrian playing the role of Gov. of Califorinia who can prove it.

hey it could be good, I just suggest lowering your expectations. that way if it's not great, at least you won't be dissappointed and if it is, you'll be pleasantly surprised.
