You mean it will take that title away from Cloverfield?

I was pretty satisfied with Cloverfield because I didn't know what to expect. I feel like I've already seen the best parts of this movie in the trailer. I like Will Smith, but not sure I can take 90 minutes of Will Smith moping around the big screen as a drunk malcontent.

If they had cast Hugh Laurie in this role, I'd have much higher expectations.

Early reviews are not good.

Just from the Trailer it looks like the first 10 minutes or so are hilarious. Then when Hancock sobers up so does the movie.

First half of the movie is great. It really could have been awesome. Then there is a plot twist and you are left kind of going...hmmm....

I would give it a B-. A first half C second half.

It was alright. Worth the price of admission.

Didn't like the casting of Charlize Theron. Which hurts me to say that.

Like Chris, I enjoyed the flick until the big twist. It completely changed the movie. It made it like two movies in one.

Yeah, those statements pretty much sum it up.

The first part was really good and funny. I really thought it was gonna be super, and then things just kinda fell apart. Bummer.

It was decent. Funny, and cheesy like you would expect from Will Smith. Twist was meh, but not bad.

After reading reviews here and in various publications, I went into this movie with seriously reigned-in expectations. I came out pleasantly surprised. I thought it was really good. The twist felt very Kirby-esque (maybe no one but superspock will know what I'm talking about...and that's okay).

Also, I saw the twist coming from Theron's first moment on screen. I'd like to know more of that backstory, though.

Huh, I hadn't thought of it in those terms, but now that you mention it I can see why you'd think that.

Unfortunately, in one of the preview cuts they accidentally showed Theron fighting Smith for a brief moment. So they kinda screwed up there...

Something was missing from the movie I can't put my finger on that kept it from being great, as it stands, an average summer flick that I didn't feel robbed seeing.

Very new-gods/celestial thing going on with their mysterious background.

Exactly right. Well done spotting it, slipped right past me. I like that it was a character-driven "superhero" movie. It did feel like reading an older Marvel in that way.

agree 100%. found myself laughing out loud during the first half and then waiting, and waiting, and waiting for something . . . anything . . . in the second half that interested me. the twist was predictable and simplistic imo. and i never really grew to care too much for any of the characters in the second part of the movie. but the first part was entertaining enough to recommend it.

I liked it and think movie critic's across the globe should turn in their resignations now!

I don't. It was enjoyable enough, but it was sloppy in how it presented itself. No need for a surprise twist (which wasn't all that surprising).
This could have come off much, much better had she just been an average person instead of being Bateman's wife. I mean, sure, the whole drawn together thing, but it just made it cheesy when it could have been dramatic. Oh well. He played the role well, but it wasn't destined to be that good of a movie the way they set it up.

Well, I think the point is that as soon as the movie is released, you have to expect that the threads will have spoilers in them. It's unfortunate because sometimes you'd just like to read a non-spoiler review, but it's the nature of message boards.

I don't get how it was sloppy... My point is it wasn't anywhere as bad as critics stated. The amount of money the movie made and the response from the average Joe kind of proves my point. Everyone I went with and/or has seen it, liked it. Some even liked it a lot....

I tend to let the story be told by the writers and director with out nit picking how it is told so maybe that is why I can like so many movies including this one. The movie took the time to explain why they met again and had re-united in the past. For me that is all it took. Hell one critic even said the shove so in so's head up the convicts @$$ was disgusting and done in pour taste. Almost the entire crowd was ROTFL including myself!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this one! Will Smith delivers another solid performance. This guy has gold on pretty much everything he touches.

Agree. But most professional movie critics have always amused me with their universally smug superiority fixations. Reviews often read like wine taster's similar inanities.

Saw it today and enjoyed it. Charlisse Theron was good, as usual.

No offense skkorp, but I find it kinda funny that people complain about critics having "smug superiority fixations" by doing what? Acting smug and superior. :)
